The Abyss "Theatrical in 4K Dolby Vision/HDR10, Dolby Atmos; Special Edition Cut in 4K Dolby Vision/HDR10 and Dolby Digital+ 5.1 as a special feature. Special Edition cut available as separate purchase in 4K Dolby Vision/HDR10 and Dolby Digital+ 5.1"

The SE of Abyss is not 4k in the features of the theatrical. I know this because I bought the the theatrical 4k at Vudu and the SE is HDX in the features. However, I did test Aliens and the SE of Aliens is 4k in the special features.

Isn't the version in the Aliens special features the theatrical cut, and the main feature is the SE?

As of yesterday morning, the SE of "The Abyss" under the Special Features of the theatrical was upgraded to 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Digital+ 5.1. You will notice that the tile for the SE under the special features has changed just as it did with "Aliens."

Still not fixed, as the SE is missing Dolby Atmos.

Vudu chat agent Ncebakazi P is trying to tell me that Vudu received their copy of "The Abyss" from Warner Bros.

No wonder the Atmos is missing!

Latest updates on Vudu regarding Aliens and The Abyss:

                    Aliens
Special Edition cut under Special features of the Theatrical version is now Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. - FIXED

                    The Abyss
Special Edition cut under Special Features of the Theatrical version is now Dolby Vision and DD+ 5.1. - Oh, so close, but Vudu may either be waiting for Disney to deliver the corrected audio (as reported by The Digital Bits on 1/25/2024) or for the content team to load the version with the corrected audio since nearly every other retailer has the corrected version.

OK, so now The Abyss: Special Edition stand alone (179263) now includes Dolby Atmos, but the Special Edition special feature of the theatrical is still only DD+ 5.1.

Something I noticed a few days ago is the new Collectors Edition of Avatar only has the Extended Cut special feature in HDX. Likely the Special Edition cut as well, although I can’t verify that, as it was in my brother’s Vudu library that we watched it.

Many of the special features, last time I looked, were named incorrectly.

On most devices, the special edition and Extended Cut are labeled identically to the featurettes with direct access to the new scenes. I’ve only seen on the FireTV app actually tells you which is which.

For those purchasing these on disc next week, the codes are still messed up.

FelipeF Something is definitely going on with the 4K version of Aliens on the Vudu app for Apple TV 4K. The theatrical won't play - no error code, just endless buffering when trying to launch (that is the situation with just about every special feature, too). The Special Edition cut under special features returns a Movie Unavailable error (Code 2102).

The movie and special features play just fine on the Vudu app on Roku devices.
