4K Upgrades Itunes Free / FAH Not Free

Just opening this up for discussion and not for argument, but I'm questioning why when a title gets a 4K Upgrade doesn't FAH automatically upgrade it for you without having to repurchase it.
Itunes 4K upgrades are at no charge so I don't see this as being a studio issue, because if it was, Itunes certainly would not be upgrading these for free. They would have to pay a percentage to the studios on each title they upgraded while collecting zero dollars. Maybe someone out there has a better insight, but for me it's frustrating to have all these titles getting upgrades and being told to purchase them again if you want them in 4K. Case in point, I purchased The Roaring Twenties and less than a week later it received a 4K upgrade. Had I purchased it on itunes, the upgrade would have been at no charge. It's pushed my buying habits down on FAH if not a 4K title that has a chance of being upgraded for that reason. Now if the upgrades came at no charge, I'd be purchasing a lot more titles without concern since the upgrade would come free. There are many others I've spoken with who have also curtailed their buying habits for this very reason.
Is there a chance for this to change at FAH. At least with physical media upgrading from a dvd to blu ray or blu ray to 4K, you can at least sell one item and recoup a few dollars towards the upgrade.

This is something we all have been wondering, and wanting. FAH will say it's up to the studios, and they refuse free upgrades. Others say Apple has enough money to pay for all the free upgrades on their side. I doubt that. I think it's all up to the studios, and if Apple can do it, I don't see why FAH and others don't? They want to be competitive, right? I won't buy an upgrade until it goes on sale for $5-ish, or if it goes on sale at another MA provider.

I will also upgrade when it is $5. And it is easier if you see a title or two on sale. But now I see 6-10 titles on sale, and I am reluctant to spend $30-50 on upgrades. I think the Apple thing will become a norm eventually.

You may already know this, but just in case: There have been some random resolution upgrades, as well; there’s another fairly long thread about the subject, but basically many customers including myself have received emails saying that a given subset of their movies were upgraded for free. It wasn’t all of them, but was still a nice surprise. There was a second round so who knows, maybe more in the future.

On a different but related subject, I’m still wondering about Doctor Who 2000’s first few seasons not being higher resolution. Personally, I really don’t mind hdx (rather than 4k) on titles, but higher than sd when possible like on those seasons would be nice.

          Thanks

About 5 years ago I decided to switch to iTunes as my primary movie collection seller for this reason. The free 4K upgrades are a big factor for me. I enjoyed Vudu a lot, but eventually the free 4K upgrades, the more frequent sales on iTunes (not sure if that is still true), and knowing Apple wasn't going out of business, led me to that decision. I have gradually replaced all my original Vudu purchases with iTunes. An expensive process, and not really a smart economic move (LOL), but worth it to me in the long run to have my entire collection in one place and all the free upgrades. I can't recommend it because of the cost, but it has worked out well for me. I do miss this Vudu forum! I get on here every so often, but not like I used to since I don't purchase anything here anymore. Happy Movie Collecting and Happy Holidays!
