The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     Account Billing Options

    As a previous user of MovieBeam, one thing they got right was their billing scenario. They did not use a pre-payment format but instead billed the account after a movie was rented. This to me seems like a much better scenario since Im one that prefers to hang on to my own money instead of others holding it for me. Is there a possibility that VUDU would consider this practice?

    As far as I know, we do not have any plans of changing the options for billing an account. However, I'll pass along this suggestion to let the people upstairs know that customers want this change.

      I don't mind the current billing process. But I do remember thinking that it was a bit strange when I first set it up.

      But now that I've been using it I don't really mind it at all.

      But I do have a question. I just opted for the $20 plan. On December 11th when Bourne Ultimatum comes out and I buy it. Let's assume that I've got a balance on my account of $8. If I purchase Bourne Ultimatum I assume that Vudu will charge me another $20 to fill my account back up and then I'll have $3 left over. Is that right?

          This could be one of the reasons Moviebeam went out of business.

          Each time a credit card transaction is processed, the credit card company charges the merchant a fee. It is probably far most cost effective to Vudu to have accounts where you "store" your money and make fewer transactions than have a credit card transaction occur for every movie rental or purchase.

          I'm surprised ANYONE cares much about this anyhow. Given the popularity of things like gift cards, Starbucks cards, iPass/EasyPass (for those of us with Toll-Roads in our areas), etc. this is a pretty standard business model.

            Moviebeam did a monthly invoice. They would change your account and then send the bill...there were no micropayments involved. Like you said micropayments will kill a business plan...

            Moviebeam went out due to lack of studio support and limited selection of movies. Also the internet shift made their delivery model obsolete.

              OK. It sounded from the OP like they charged you individually after each movie.

              Still the charge and invoice plan is a lot more costly to the service provider than the pre-pay plan...

                Sorry to mislead on the original post. MovieBeam would "call in" to my box every so often to query which movies had been downloaded and then charge my credit card. If they were to do this once a month it would require one merchant fee for the entire bulk of usage for that month. Using the VuDu scenario you will be assessed a merchant fee every $20 worth of spending (not that VuDu would mind).

                The reason I care about this at all, is that gift cards are a fantastic model for merchants, not for the purchaser, which is why I dont buy them for myself (who would). They virtually guarantee the recipient will either buy more than the gift cards value or leave a bit of the value on the card never to be used. Unless your price point for movies rounds to the nearest whole dollar, I am bound by the same theory, either I get charged another $20 and rent more or I leave a buck or two on my account and cease rentign from VuDu. How much does it cost VuDu to send a check for the 33 cents thats left on my account? Splitting hairs I know, but I have a fondness for the money I earn.

                  It costs them zero. They just credit back to your credit card any amount left in your account.
