Flixster Video discontinung UV streaming end of week: Is UV dead now?

Just went to Flixster video on the internet browser and got a page saying that all streaming will cease as of the 28th of August which is next Monday.

Sounds like they are just telling everyone to stream their shows on VUDU now. Does this mean Ultraviolet is dead? Flixster was operated by Warner and NBC Universal as of late.

Does this mean that they are possibly transitioning to the Movies Anywhere service (different from Disney Movies Anywhere service) that there were rumors about in the very near future?

Just want to know what is going on so I don't lose part of my UV library as part of these changes.

You won't lose anything that is in your UV account, which really goes to show the beauty of UV. It's why I chose it in the first place.

CinemaNow also just (finally) closed up shop, leaving Vudu and FandangoNow as the only UV providers left. I have a feeling Movies Anywhere really will become a thing but all we can do in the meantime is sit back and keep watching movies!

Cinemanow keeps claiming they are trying to fix the issues they are having but they are probably dead too at this point.

What is kind of bothering me about this is the Fandango/Flixster relationship. Fandango is owned by NBC Universal and was powering Flixster for the last several months. Why then is Flixster telling people to go to VUDU rather than FandangoNOW? Sounds like maybe FandangoNOW might be exiting UV soon too if they aren't that confident in their own services.

Looks like UV is becoming VUDU by itself now!

This is new news past the point where CinemaNow was saying they are just trying to fix issues - they really have officially closed up shop.

My understanding is Flixster is pointing people to Vudu because FandangoNow doesn't do UV code redemptions

That makes more sense now about FandangoNow not being used to migrate users to since they wouldn't have a way to enter UV codes. But it could also be another sign FandangoNow is not really going to support UV much longer themselves since they would have taken the step a while back to add UV redemption. Sounds like FandangoNow is just going to wait to add redemption options when the next locker begins.

Where did you hear Cinemanow is closed? I have not seen anything about migration or any press releases or official Facebook or Tweets.

I have this long bit of info I could post but I remembered Vudu having a rule about posting info here about their competitors so I'm going to refrain (it's not flattering info). You'll just have to trust this complete stranger on the internet

At the end of the day it's really a moot point whether they exist or not because UV dropped them as a provider so we wouldn't be able to access our collections on them anyway...

Perhaps this is why Lionsgate has been telling people to wait for VUDU to add redemptions for UHD codes.

So in theory would our UV accounts transition into this Movies Anywhere thing if UV dies?

Flixster was never powered by FandangoNow. Flixster was powered by Rovi. Rovi also powered cinema now and target ticket before that. Rovi is shutting down their service, so both services are forced to do the same. Fandango Now is not powered by a third party, so it shouldn't have to shut down. Flixster wouldn't ask people to use FandangoNow if it were closing too.
