I didn't want the apple TV because I didn't want to by another box to plugin and hang outside of my TV when the TV could do what the apple TV is doing if Apple just made an app. Luckily, the Disney anywhere allowed me to pull my Disney moves from iTunes to make available on VUDU.

With apple announcement, I'm thinking of just giving in and get an apple TV box for at least one of our TVs and move back to iTunes. It would be nice to pull my UV into iTunes.
Basically the same for me as well. Apple isn?t likely to go under in the next few years. That is a huge her probability th Vudu and UV in general.

I wish Vudu pulp publish this with far more aggressiveness. I haven?t seen anything on this in email distortion list or on the main site/app. Only here.

      Good news though.

Re: Apple - Charging Same $ for 4K as HD plus upgrading all HD movies to 4K for FREE!

Time for Vudu and the UV consortium to rethink policies and pricing. I've got nearly 700 titles in UV ecosystem and a couple hundred in the iTunes ecosystem because I usually buy physical disks for the best audio and video quality, and that's how the codes redeemed.

BUT, I now have an Apple TV 4K and the audio and video on their UHD titles is virtually indistinguishable from the physical disk in a UHD BD player. There is less compression from iTunes compared to Ultraviolet. And now that many of my 200 titles just went from HD to 4K AT NO COST on iTunes is a game changer. I think I can finally abandon physical media and just buy from iTunes to get the quality I want WITHOUT extremely higher pricing like Vudu does.

Vudu/UV should do this ASAP or risk losing customer loyalty and revenue. In addition, they should consider doing a little less compression on the titles! It is a markedly noticeable difference in quality, which will lead me (and others) over to Apple/iTunes.

I could've sworn I read a post from a VUDU employee that there was a big announcement coming today. I can't find the post though. Am I imagining things?

Someone mentioned in another forum the teaser announcement was for the Mix and Match sale and giveaway.

If so, probably not the best time to give a teaser and have this be the surprise. Everyone is expecting something similar or better than what the other group did.

They also need to do what apple is doing and upgrade all titles we have to 4k as well.

Switching to itunes looks like the route I am going if they do not match this.

I do not want to as I have over 500 movies here but its to compelling what apple offers right now not to.

Things might need to be a bit more nuanced for Vudu, I don't think we want them to just match HD and UHD prices for the sake of it, because it might raise HD prices from where they are now. "Focus" for example is $6.99 for HD and $29.99 for UHD right now, that disparity is ridiculous but I don't think making both HD and UHD $20 is a great solution either. And I think we can all agree that $6.99 UHD isn't going to happen anytime soon. (Which is probably why the "upgrade" question is difficult to address, the price we originally paid for some of our movies are all over the place, I'm not sure how consistent movie prices and sales were on iTunes) My main concern is that UHD prices are competitive with other retailers and 4K Blu-rays.

Actually , yes we can expect $7 UHD. Why not? Apple upgraded all licenses to UHD (where available) - even those purchased for $5, and all code slips.

What I'd like to see is single-priced highest-resolution-available selling of digital titles. Like if a title is available in 4K, make that the ONLY resolution it can be sold at. (You can still STREAM at available lower resolutions.) Like, literally, whatever title you buy, you're simply buying the TITLE, and *NOT* the "specific resolution." So, if a title is upgraded to 4K, you'd simply be able to stream it at up to 4K.

You might argue, "but then how would studios make any money if they can't triple-dip customers every time a higher resolution format comes out?" But, I'd simply say, "There will always be new & old titles to buy. Rather than buying the same title over and over, we'd simply be investing in new titles. And getting more bang for our buck." People who already have a title wouldn't have to pay to up the resolution, and people who didn't already have the title could still buy it at the highest resolution available. It's not like people would "stop buying movies/TV." And people can still buy new *physical copies* to go with their 4K players, etc. If they want the security of having a physical disk, should all streaming services, or a given streaming service, go down (as some have).

IMO, that should be the way forward...

I am of course hoping that Vudu matches Apple. But I have a feeling that Apple is eating the cost of this in an effort to build market share for Apple TV. I hardly knew anyone that used Apple TV and that is now changing because the 4K Apple TV is arguably the most advanced box available. At the very least, hopefully the SD tier is upgraded to HDX and then eliminated. It has no place in the modern digital world!

I pulled the trigger on an Apple TV 4K last week, because I was tired of the Vudu app on my OLED LG tv and Roku 4 not working. I went through my catalog of blus and re-redeemed as many titles as I could through Apple for the free 4K upgrade and I now have over 200 4K titles at my disposal, and Apple has WAY more titles in 4K than I care to even buy. And speaking of price, just today I bought American Made in 4K+HDR for $9 off the Apple Store. As of now, you can't beat it and until Vudu steps up Apple is getting my money.

No Disney is the only studio not allowing it and they also want to charge a higher price for UHD, which Apple doesn't so for now Apple doesn't carry Disney UHD titles.
