So Vudu...what about these free upgrades to UHD?

Still no word yet? It's great that you lowered the prices, but apple still is giving free upgrades. Why don't you?

From my understanding Apple does not give a permanent license upgrade to uhd. What they do is let you stream any movie you purchase from them in uhd if a uhd version is available . And you have to view on Apple TV. That is the limit. And it may not be permanent.

So it's not as simple as it seems. In theory Vudu could request a similar deal. But it is possible Apple paid for this privilege to the studios. So it can be difficult to compare.

I think Vudu is doing the right thing with lowering uhd prices to a far more attractive price and in practice lowering the price of HDx and in some cases charging the same for HDx and SD. I'd love to see the SD purchase level go away and just have HDx and uhd now.

At the very least, Vudu needs to provide an upgrade path to UHD. There is absolutely no way I am paying $15 or more to upgrade to something that was not available when I already purchased in the best resolution available at the time.

It's been requested countless times here but Vudu needs to get with the program and offer inexpensive upgrades. What happens when 8K becomes available? Do we all need to re-purchase titles again, at even higher prices? Movies will end up totaling out at $60 each. With nearly 2000 titles in my library, that is simply not doable.

FYI, merging your Vudu account with Movies Anywhere will upgrade your SD Vudu titles to HD within other shared services (though it won't upgrade within Vudu).

Also, if you redeem an SD Ultraviolet code directly on the Movies Anywhere site, it will appear as HD on all services, including Vudu.

One huge new thing I love is all the titles owned on Vudu that are now also on iTunes can be watched in UHD on iTunes for those that are eligible. Plus iTunes has a lot of "extras" that I haven't seen before. It's awesome to have more options for viewing our movies! I will always do most of my purchasing on Vudu, but the viewing options are great.

Edit: Well, from what I'm reading in other forums, maybe my UHD comment isn't true. It appeared to be that way to me, but I need to do further testing.
