The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Although the primary purpose of these forums is to help Fandango at Home customers with questions and/or problems with their Fandango at Home service, there are also off-topic areas available within the Fandango at Home Forums for users to chat with like-minded people, subject to the limitations below.

    I guess you've never commuted 3+ hours by commuter rail. (Neither have I, but I grew up in NYC, and it's not at all unusual there, so watching while commuting immediately came to mind.)

      I don't know if I'd ever watch a full-blown movie on a portable media player, but I think a lot of people are using iPods/Zunes/Zens/etc. to watch video podcasts (usually 5-10 minutes) or TV programming where video quality isn't a priority (Daily Show, Family Guy, etc.).

        That sounds like the worst possible way to see a movie that I really wanted to see. I did used to commute 2 hours round trip by train. I used the time for reading and I think I would still prefer that.

          Now that I can see. I'm not sure if Vudu will or should ever get into the podcast arena. I can see the overlap in the tv arena though.

            Oh, me too, I mostly used my bus commute time for studying back when I was able to commute by bus, but some people are converting their ReplayTV MPEGs so that they can watch their TV shows on a portable device during their commute, and that would make more sense than a movie, too, especially if your time at home is limited by a long commute.

Given how many people are so critical of how many movies don't have 5.1 sound tracks, it seems that many people wouldn't want to watch a movie on a 3" screen. Again, I can see it for TV, but not for movies. If you really need to kill time on a plane or train or whatever, the book or magazine is the killer app.

                  Do you have young children? I do and I have to lug DVDs around in the car and back into the house for them to watch on our in-car system. When we went on vacation this summer, I'd just gotten a 5th gen iPod with video. I'd ripped or converted a number of movies/shows to work on the iPod and hooked it up to the auxiliary/game port in the car. I now had dozens of shows/kids movies at my finger tips and not once did I have to change DVDs.

                  When I travel now, I never watch the in-flight entertainment. I've always got content loaded on my laptop to catch up on TV-shows (heck - most of the episodes of Battlestar Galactica that I have watched have been on a plane or in a hotel room).

                  Yes, I would like every movie to be in DD5.1. In fact, it's too bad that Vudu doesn't support higher than 5.1. But a lot of times, to me, it's more about viewing the content. Yes, surround sound is terrific and it does bring you into the movie as was pointed out in another thread. But, I don't think it's what is going to make or break Vudu. I expect that in time the 5.1 issue will be resolved and movies will end up with improved audio tracks (or at least I hope so). But not every theatre shows movies in surround sound or Dolby Digital (maybe this is no longer correct - shows how many theater movies I go to). To me, making the content flexible is more important than DD5.1. But that is my opinion. Ideally, I'd like both, but I've never met a product yet that is "perfect" or "ideal."

                    I agree with your points about kids movies and TV shows. I have kids that are past the video stage now and are into the PSP and DS phase. But when they were younger, I remember bringing DVDs along with us. So I can see the value of portability to a certain extent, especially when it comes to TV shows, although with HD TV programming, I would really miss my big screen there too. What I can't see is anyone getting super excited about watching feature length movies on an iPod though.

                      Agreed - but trust me - the iPod is better than you would think. And I have a Phillips iPod Dock/DVD player that gives me an 8.5" screen - great for travel. Also, there are "VR" glasses that you can get for your iPod - put them on and you feel like you are seeing the movie on the big screen. Finally, there's the fact that a portable file can play on the laptop or on a laptop hooked to a larger TV. Additionally, in the Appleverse, there is AppleTV. Being able to rip a DVD into iTunes, allows easy viewing of the movie via AppleTV...

                        I used to take the Metroliner on the east cost twice a week from Newark to Baltimore. It bounces so much I couldn't use my laptop. Watching a bouncing screen on a laptop was just too much even for movies. The only entertainment was listening to music or books from Auduble or reading a book or newspaper.

                          The US has no real concept of good train systems or good trains. The Shinkansen in Japan or the TGV in France blow away anything we have here. Smooth and quiet too...The TGV is quite the mind bending experience....
