The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     The funny thing is that is probably the thing I like least about the Vudu. I had requested a remote more like the Tivo one. Go figure.

      For what Vudu box does currently, the remote is great (simple, easy to learn & operate). Now, if/when more functionality become available, then a more full-featured remote could be discussed. Although, personally, I don't see very many functions missing except ability to adjust TV/receiver volume (this would require an IR blaster though, I suppose).

        When I read the first paragraph, I immediately knew that would be the feature they liked (the remote).

        I actually like the wheel remote, and I can definitely see how a TiVo or other DVR device would benefit with the addition of a wheel.
        I'll agree that the wheel should be in addition to more hard buttons. If you want to scroll with a hard button, that should be an option.

        But most of all, the remote should be IR or IR/RF. RF only kinda sucks.

          I've been playing with the remote now for almost a year. When I first got the remote last February, I was ticked it wasn't RF/IF - very ticked. However, even if an IR blaster was added, I'm not sure how much I'd use my Harmony 880 with the Vudu because I do like the scroll wheel. When I compare scrolling through large lists with my AppleTV remote and the Vudu, I find the Vudu to win hands down as I can control the speed much easier. And scrolling through content is WAY, WAY better with the Vudu remote than my AppleTV. I think the scroll wheel is certainly innovative and yeah - a lot of devices would benefit from having one...

            I absolutely love the look/FEEL of the remote. The scroll wheel is just awesome. The only issue I have with it is that I wish it were balanced a bit better. The batteries are in the vertical part, making it easy to knock over. You have to set it down just right or it won't stand up like it should. Perhaps a little weight (if it would fit) in the "bottom" to counter the battery weight...

              My problem with the scroll wheel is it always feels awkward pushing it to select things. My father (in his 80s) often inadvertently scrolls the wheel as he is intending to push it, causing the wrong thing to happen. He doesn't have any problem with his Tivo remote, however. Even I feel I have to concentrate more using it than I do with any other remote from that perspective.

              I think the scroll wheel does have some benefit with the Vudu UI. Where I think it falls short is for navigating the alphabet control for finding movies, the needing to scroll to get between different UI regions (e.g. from the top categories to the featured movies), the need to have a "left" button to get to the left region containing the list of movies that were found with your criteria, and the clumsy selection.

                I still think it would be a huge improvement to add a potentiometer like the old Apple II joysticks. Then there could be a bump on the wheel that would be right in the center of the exposed arc, and you'd roll and hold the bump up or down to rotate the wheel. When you let go, it would spring back to the center. Pushing it a little off center would scroll slowly, and pushing it all the way would scroll really fast. That way, you could just hold it up or down and scroll, scroll, scroll. The repeated rolling to scroll a lot annoys me, in case you couldn't tell. It's still a great interface, and a nice remote, I just think that one change would make it a lot better.

                    I just looked at my Logitech mouse and, to my surprise, it does too. I never even realized it. It would be hard to adapt to the alphabet selector in the UI since it currently goes sequentially through the letters and they are arranged left to right. If they were arranged vertically then using the scroll left and right capability would be handy for that.

                      Yep that will scroll the browser or word left or right if you have content that displays out of the current window boundaries.

                      Too many functions confuse folks when it comes to remote controls. When I used to have a pronto it was real easy to control what folks could see and use but the darn thing just didn't have tactile feedback. My father-in-law never figured it out when he was over. When he tried the VUDU he got it right away.
