There are 2 USB ports on the box. One in the back and one on the side.

Just trying to understand...what would one want to plug into the Vudu box via usb?

Well, you can use a mouse as opposed to the remote or in addition to.

I used a USB port to power an HDMI switch at one point.

But the biggest reason is that in upcoming months Vudu users will be able to attach their own USB hard drives to the Vudu and expand their storage capabilities.

You might be interested in getting in on the after Christmas sales for one of these animatronic babies to customize your Vudu installation:

Do you think Vudu might support the DROBO Storage Robot? I have one at work that I use for backup and it works great. Its capacity is virtually unlimited. It would be a nice solution for a growing library of movies and tv shows.

That's a cool looking device, but I doubt it is something that would play well with the Vudu. The Vudu is going to format the external drives to be used exclusively by the Vudu and the contents will be encrypted. The only way that DROBO would work would be if the programmers from both companies got together and I'm guessing both groups (of programmers) are already quite busy with what's already on the table.

I do think it is a neat concept.

I doubt it. The DROBO is not just a passive hard drive, but an active device that automatically works to back up your computer. It's not necessary on the Vudu nor would it work as the Vudu file system is encrypted.

What is simply needed is a basic USB storage device. There are many USB storage cases out there and nothing (not even the DROBO) is truly unlimited. But you can go get yourself a dual drive USB enclosure and two terabyte hard drives and you'll have plenty of external storage available.

Of course, Vudu needs to release this software upgrade first and none of us outside of Vudu have any clue as to when that will be other than what was promised originally....

Thats good to hear...I have an external 1TB drive just waiting to be used. Although, I would still prefer to save my movies to my 4TB NAS, but for now I'll take what I can get

You may want to plug one of these into the USB port:

I saw this at Frys also.

The USB "Humping Dog" on the sidebar is equally appealing....

I gave one of those to a co-worker for Christmas...don't think he will be using it at work.
