    Is that so we can be diverted from the fact that Vudu has created a new product and left everyone with the old vudu behind?
    Nobody is being left behind. Both boxes play HD, have the same output options, use the same remote, etc. The new box has a larger HD and based on what the press release stated the box is targeted to "Custom" installers.

      I thought the big difference is that with the old box we will not get instant viewing for HD content. Maybe I read it wrong.

        Absolutely, positively 100% NOT the case. I GUARANTEE you that if you have a fast enough connection you will be able to stream HD content on the current box.

        There were two separate press releases. The HD press release said nothing about being limited to the Terabyte box.

        YOU WILL BE ABLE TO STREAM HD WITH THE 250 GB BOX!!!

        Period. End of story. It's a good ending!

          For those of you who are still worried about the XL being a replacement box it is most definitely not. It is just what previous posters have said and is for the high end integration market. And yes VUDU needed to do this now as they werte going to be passed up for womething else that offered what they didn't. The ability to be controlled and bigger storage.

          I am in the integration industry and so glad I can talk about this now as this was known to the industry last week by a release from VUDU. If anyone follows the Evangelist thread they may have caught may premature posting (leak) of this last week.

          High end clients don't care about price. They are not interesting in upgrading and adding on. And we as integrators are not interested in losing rack space for external hard drives. And yes every 1.75" rack space is crucial.

          The coinciding announcement of streaming HD content and a box for the high end market was the right move at the right time. Now lets get that IP control out of BETA!

            Reading is fundamental.....

            There is no difference in content availability for either version of the Vudu. Both models will have acccess to the announced 70+ HD titles and instant view HD (requires 4MB bandwidth) at the end of the month.

                Personally the new box has zero appeal for me. I never intend to purchase movies and I love the existing RF remote. The only major enhancement I'd really like to see is more rental titles. I was hoping for a few more CES announcements, but I guess we'll have to wait.

                  What's your thoughts on the addtion of 70 Instant View HD (mostly DD5.1) rentals at the end of the month?

                    You didn't ask me, but I'll answer.

                    The addition of 70 HD movies is GREAT, provided that number increases by about 10 a month every month thereafter. Some months less, others more. I know when I used to go to blockbuster, there'd be 4-5 new releases a week at least. That's 15-20 a month easily. So heck, I'll even lower it - 7-10 new HD movies a month after the 70 are added. That would be great.

                      Why would Vudu want to do that? They are a viciously evil company dominated solely by the desire to take money out of your pocket. This is nothing but a ploy by them to sell more boxes. They will then take your money and give you just 70 B grade movies in HD that will look like junk. There will never be any expansion of content and new movies will not be added!

                        Vudu's not giving us 70 HD movies. They're charging $6 for newer releases (holy crap!) and $4 for older movies.
                        If the quality is good and the selection is good, I'd probably pay the $6, particularly if I have a few people over to watch some movies.

                        I don't always watch my vudu on my HD TV. Sometimes the SD TV is more convenient, so I'd probably continue to rent both formats after HD becomes available.

                          I'm hoping 70+ HD titles with DD5.1 sound on the vast majority is the minum added every month for the rest of the year. That would put Vudu on top of Netflix and Blockbuster by the end of summer.

                          Can I get a gig selling these boxes at the next Star Trek convention?

                          Back in the day, folks would pay $400+ for laserdisc recording of Star Trek. Modern trekkies will jump on this and could empty the warehouse.

                                I did not pay $400 dollars for 5 Star Trek movies on Laserdisc, I spent $139. This set was serial numbered and a collectors items. The guy that spent the $400 was for the one with the serial number "1701".
