    YouTube - will it ever be back?

    With Christmas approaching, I'm planning on dropping my Vudu in favor of a box that has YouTube.

    I'm a Vudu "Evangelist" and have one of the first boxes. Having YouTube was always a great feature, and since it's been gone we've used the box less and less. If the new interface let you add in your own RSS feeds (video podcasts) and had YouTube, it would be a killer machine. As it stands, it's no different than "On Demand" in my opinion.

    At this point, I think something like the Boxee Box might be the way to go. I'm really tired of waiting for Vudu to get it right...

    So will we EVER see YouTube back? How about the ability to add your own RSS feeds so you can decide which video podcasts you want?

    I'm hoping VUDU shows up on the Boxee Box soon. I have one right now and might get a seocnd one. So I'll be able to replace two of my three BX100 boxes. I also have a PS3 but would prefer to use the Boxee Box for VUDU over the PS3 since the PS3 uses around 4X electricity that the Boxee Box uses.

    is there a secondary market for the used BX100 boxes?

      YouTube was removed in part because of their TOS.

        What in particular? Was the user login a violation of II-1? Because TiVo's YouTube app still allows it.

          I remember liking the YouTube implementation on the BX100 boxes.

            I see this TOS could be a problem, but I also see many other devices (TVs, BluRay players, smart phones, etc.) support YouTube. If you're the only one who doesn't, people will start looking elsewhere. Can you try to find out how others are able to carry YouTube without violating TOS, or find a way to be compliant with the TOS (like displaying it through a web browser that can show YouTube's ads etc., and expand to full screen like a computer web browser)? I particularly don't like the take-away; my box got YouTube when I bought it, and now it doesn't anymore. I already have a BluRay player that supports Netflix, but so far don't subscribe because I like Vudu's quality and pay as you go pricing better (I'm not a heavy user, so renting just when I want makes sense for me and was a reason I chose the BX100 box in the first place).

              Re: YouTube - will it ever be back?

              The only things I see in that TOS that I thought could be an issue for Vudu are:
              1. the prohibition against "collect[ing]...any YouTube user account information" [II-1], although based on how other devices allow individual logons, that doesn't seem to apply;
              2. selling the API for commercial use [I-2] is more likely the issue, since Vudu licenses its software (including its YouTube API) to hardware vendors like LG.

              If the latter were the case, they COULD leave it on the STBs. But I guess having different versions of Brazil for the STBs and the embedded software might be more trouble than its worth. But Google DOES allow selling an API, they just require prior approval. Maybe Wally World doesn't like asking anyone for permission for anything, who knows?

              But overall, it's really a very unrestrictive TOS. That's why I'm still curious as to exactly why Vudu dropped YouTube when TiVo and Sony, just to name two, are still carrying it.

                Another new movie UI, still no YouTube. In fact, I can't see much of anything improved by this new UI. There's nothing new in the list of "newest" apps, instead this seems to be a list of apps that haven't been removed yet Each change since WalMart took over seems to be more of a downgrade than an improvement

                  Because vudu did not want to comply with their TOS. Youtube can be used on 3rd party devices as long as they play by the rules. Fair enough?

                  I have it on my Panasonic tv and Samgsung BluRay and it works just fine.
