Quick search for HD availability when offered in both formats

I think there should be some sort of indicator on all Standard Def titles that indicates if the Title is available in HD as well. I dislike having to search to verify that the movie I am about to rent is in HD as well as SD. I prefer to rent in HD if the title is available.

Is there a way to make a link from the SD to the HD title so that I can quickly verify if the title comes in HD as opposed to typing out the name of the title in the search feature?
    Thanks,
    B

That's a great feature request - your taking the time to ask for it will help influence the future of the Vudu interface. I know this has been submitted before, but every time another user chimes in, it helps build the case for where Vudu should focus on improving the system.

    Thanks for posting!

What I do is to use the "Similar Titles" feature. This also helps find "unrated" versions as well that I might prefer.

Justin, you took the words out of my mouth. This works like a charm.

Yes, this has been requested before and it something that makes a lot of sense. Xbox 360 and PS3 work that way and I'm pretty sure it's also true for AppleTV. Why Vudu has to be a red-haired stepchild and do things differently is beyond me...

Makes sense to me. Another way to do it would be some sort of setting that prioritizes HD versions of movies and/or hides the SD versions. I was ticked last night when I rented a movie the other month in SD only to come across it's HD version in a random search last week.

SD is an absolute last resort for me, but I have four HD VOD options with VUDU being my first choice. If no one has it in HD then VUDU will get the nod for the SD version.

Actually ATV takes it a step further, they only have one listing of any given movie, when you select it you pick rent SD, rent HD, or purchase depending on what options are available for that title. No mess, no fuss, works like a charm.

There are differences between the VUDU and AppleTV and yes some folks would like to have the listings combined. But finding HD is easy on the VUDU also. Just set the High Defintion filter on the Genre search or if you have already found a title and want to see if its in HD just select simular titles from the options on the movie details page. If a HD version is available it will be listed there.

I agree with you that the Vudu interface would be better if they switched to this type of catalog presentation - one entry for any title, with a sub menu of all available rent/purchase offerings and formats. Based upon where I think the Vudu catalog is headed, I think this will likely happen.

How is it 'easy' to have to back out to the main menu, select explore catalog, explore hd, and then find your title? That is the exact opposite of easy.

And it isn't like ATV was first to the front with this, Xbox has been doing this since day one also. I HATE looking at the whats new listing and seeing half the movies twice. I hate having to jump through hoops to find the version I feel like watching. It shouldn't be this way, when Vudu was invented there were already players with better organized catalogs and it hasn't changed, why ?

I don't particularly care about the current way of organizing the catalog, but I guess the reason VUDU went with individual entries is to due to their P2P delivery system.

But, rest assured, we've bugged VUDU folks about it a whole lot, so I don't think it's going to be too long before they see the light!
