Option to upgrade from SD to HDX at reduced price.

When I own the SD version of a movie or TV show and I want the HDX version, it would be nice to get it at a reduced price. It should be able to buy the HDX for the difference it is between SD and HDX version when I already own the SD. For example, if a movie is 14.99 is SD and 19.99 in HDX. Once I own the SD version, I should be able to buy the HDX for the difference between them, 5.00. Instead of buying entire new copy of the movie when I just want to upgrade the quality. Just a thought.

Agreed, for the nth time. I'll keep agreeing every time someone makes this request!

Would also like the option to upgrade to the 3D version at a reduced price.

Any word from Vudu on if they might allow this in the near future?

I'm all for this. It would be nice to be able to upgrade the SD version to HDX and 3D when applicable.

This is my top request from Vudu to make this happen. I have a number of SD that I would gladly upgrade for the difference but would not buy the HDX at full price. Or going from HDX to 3D

Even thinking about it more -- you can upgrade if you go Disc to Digital to HDX, but you can't upgrade digital to digital (go from SD to HDX) without re-buying the HD version which makes zero sense. That seems like a no brainer from a profit perspective, its just a pointer to a different file.

Example of where this has bitten me is I did Disc to Digital on Superman (1978) a few months ago and they only format available was SD. Now there is an HDX version but I'd have to pay $13.99 instead of the $5.00 it cost when upgrading on the disk to digital--worse that's when I was converting most of all my of DVDs so it was the more than 10 at 50% making it $2.50 promo.

Of course, we'd all love this. The problem is, it's not Vudu's file, and it's not ours, either. The studios still control pricing for the most part, and they covet ownership and control of these files that they so graciously allow us to use (under their strict conditions). We're supposed to be grateful for any digital crumbs they dole out.

You could always ask them to remove it from your account and pay the $5 to do D2D again for the HDX version. (And that's assuming you don't have 9 more D2D movies to add by June, which is when the promo is currently slated to end.)

Does anyone really notice much difference between SD and HDX?

I definitely do. It is not as pronounced on some titles, and it is not as obvious as the difference between a DVD and Blu-Ray, but there is a definite difference.

I'm all for this! There are a few I would upgrade if the choice was available.

Besides agreeing with the OP, I'd also like to point out to whoever cares that I usually won't buy an SD movie because of this issue. There are a lot of older movies I want to get that are only available in SD, but I don't buy them because I'll want the HDX version if they are ever released in that format. Since there is no upgrade option, I am holding off on a large number of titles.

Most older (I'm talking about movies from the 50's and earlier) SD movies are still priced at $9.99, and many that are available in HDX are priced at $17.99. Besides those prices being insane in the first place, the idea that I could end up having to pay $28 to get an 80 year-old movie in HDX is just too much for me to handle. (Thankfully there is TCM)
