Parental Controls - Specific Movie Management

While we are actively involved in the content my kids have access to, the parental controls for Vudu / Ultraviolt don't address a specific issue I have noticed that may affect others as well. The issue for me results from movies that were released before the PG-13 standard existed (1984). If a movie didn't make the "R" rating it was considered "PG".

For the most part via Ultraviolet and the Vudu parental controls built into the devices in the house (SmartTV, Roku, etc) we have the kids limited to watching movies rated as PG OR Less. This lets them watch movies that we approve for them like E.T., Despicable Me, Shrek, etc. but since I have older movies like Jaws in my collection those show up for them too since it is also rated PG--since PG-13 didn't exist at the time. It would be nice if there was a mechanism to enforce parental controls on specific movies so as parents we can have more granular control over the movies instead of relying solely on the ratings system.

I agree with you, and have also asked for better parental CONTROLS.

In my opinion, we need a way to tag movies that are appropriate for kids (a FAMILY rating that we load up and not VUDU). If we turn on FAMILY then that should be the only movies that can be viewed on the device. In addition, we need a setting that restricts all other movies from being listed. Some of the cover art is even inappropriate.

It would be nice if they when the VUDU app starts it gave us a chance to enter a 4-digit PIN that would unlock the FAMILY setting when a parent was watching the TV. Then when the app ends and restarts it was ask again for the PIN. If the PIN isn't entered then it would be locked and only allow FAMILY movies to be seen and streamed.

After Disney launched their own cloud based service today: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...#axzz2uNi89yw4

Vudu really needs to put parental controls in the iOS app. There is no way Disney is going to go the UV route now. Currently my kids have an iPad and I have shared my collection with them via Ultraviolet for anything PG or less. However since Disney doesn't do UV they don't see any Disney movies I have purchased for them so they can only watch them on our SmartTV which is really lame because we can't take them mobile on the ipads. To see the Disney movies they would now need their iPads to be a registered device under my main Vudu account in order to see the entire collection; however since there are no parental controls on the iOS app this is not an option at present.

Please add Parental controls to iOS app!

Collections or folders that were under parental controls would solve this. You could have a folder for the kids, or each kid, and only have the youngest one's folder unlocked.

A folder system would work great or an additional field on the record that a parent can set on the movie that would override the rating. Ideally I like the folder idea- I mean I don't even want my kids seeing the titles I have in my collection if I were forced to share my primary account with them. I don't want to explain "40 Year old virgin" or "the hangover", etc. If you could mask anything except for what you have a PIN to see and play that would be a great improvement
