Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     Not being able to find classic titles

    The library for Vudu seems to be pretty large yet I can't seem to find movie that I want to watch most of the time, especially classics like Gandhi, Raging bull, and movies like the blade series etc. For someone who wanted vudu so they don't have to have a netflix account it is a bit disappointing.

    The fact is that pretty much ALL VOD services have a very limited selection, in the grand scheme of total movies available on the market (i.e. probably well over 100,000+). All VOD services, including VUDU, have a small fraction of that, therefore ANY VOD service should be looked at as a supplement to some other existing method. After-all it is unlikely you will ALWAYS find ALL the movies you want to movie, as the majority of then just are not available yet via VOD. So, if you walk into this thinking you can get pretty much everything you want, your going to be disappointed with VOD. Having said that, there is nothing VUDU or ANY other VOD service can do about this as it is controlled by the studios. If your fine with that, than VUDU is a great service to supplement other methods.

      I would also add that Vudu is probably best appreciated by browsing through what they do have and making a wishlist of things that you find that you want to see at some point. Then keep adding to that every week as new movies come out and are added to the library. Then, if you don't need to watch a specific movie, but instead are just in the general mood to watch a movie, a quick browse through your wish list might provide a movie that you really do want to watch.

      I have been doing this since November, 2007 and we have watched more than a movie a day (on average) since then. My wish list typically has 20 to 30 movies in it. I watch way more movies than I ever would with a Netflix account because I typically have more movies that I've already decided I want to watch sometime that are so easy to just watch when that particular mood strikes me.

      Would it be better if it had every movie in the world? Of course. But using Vudu in a way that utilizes its strengths can really provide a great experience that using Netflix to rent DVDs can't come close to.

        Oh I agree and understand that, but when I see movies like Chill which is a horrible low budget film and it is missing films like Gandhi, it just makes me disappointed. But I still like the vudu, my mom however seems to have given up on hers.

          I don't know if this post is still around here somewhere, but I think one of the in-the-know people informed us that it's more difficult to get VOD rights to older movies because back then the VOD wasn't part of standard agreements (or something like that), so now they have to re-request them from all interested parties.

            It's in what at least used to be a sticky that I wrote.

            The old movies are very, very tricky regarding licensing and digital rights as they didn't exist when those movies were made.

            Also, just utilize the search function for the older movies. If you know what decade it was in (ex: 70s or 80s) and what genre, you can then select just those items and look for movies that way. It's quite powerful. You might be surprised at what you find.

            I guess my definition of "classic" is different than yours. If it was made during my lifetime (particularly my adult lifetime), I hardly regard it as classic.
