    Walmart Updates?

I'm curious if everyone's Walmarts are getting on board yet after 2 months. My local Walmart is still clueless 90% of the time, which is actually kind of funny since they seem to have the most D2D signs around the store. I decided to try again today and I'll give the employee some credit in that he actually tried to figure it out, but he gave up after 15 minutes and asked me to come back tomorrow when the photo manager will be there. The excuses I get from the store are
    1. "What's that? We don't do that here"
    2. "Come back on the weekend when the photo manager is here"
    3. "Come back on the weekday when the photo manager is here"
    4. "I can't find the Vudu password. Come back tomorrow"

That password is elusive. I've gotten that at 2 different stores.

I did notice while I was there that some movies now have stickers on them giving $4 Disc To Digital credits. Corporate seems to want the program to work with all the advertising and now credits. They just need to actually get the stores to train more than one elusive employee.

    Re: Walmart Updates?

I worked for Wal-Mart for 4 years. The training they give needs improvement in some instances. I was told every year during my evaluation I needed to learn the service desk. I received 2 training hours on the desk. There is nothing worse than appearing "clueless" to a customer. My Wal-Mart does have a few employees trained in the D2D process. Only 2 employees so far have shown they know what they're doing. There have been a few others I've encountered that don't have a clue and luckily for me one of the people who know the process have been there.

The problem you've encountered is definitely the photo manager not doing their job and I'm willing to bet the store manager has no idea what is going on. The next time you go to your Wal-Mart ask to speak with the store manager. There is also a district manager you can contact who is over the store manager. Usually there is a sign posted near customer service or even near the store entrance that has the store and district manager's name. If the store manager doesn't resolve the issue, let them know you're going to contact the district manager. Be firm as squeaky wheels usually get the grease.

    Good luck.

I overheard them say the password format when they were training staff during one of my conversions. If the password is similar for all stores it is vuduxxxx. xxxx is the store number.

The Wallmart near my house is up to speed with the D2D program with about a dozen of employee who knows what they are doing. Usually it takes me about 10 minutes to do the whole D2D process. Also, I am pleased to say that I'm not the only one who goes there.

That's great to hear, wish I lived in your area :-). I've had about 25% success thus far using 3 different Walmarts. One thing I make sure of is to do large batches to make as few trips as possible. The instructions, stamp, and password sure are elusive buggers.

Thanks to this program and VUDU though, I've lost several several hours of sleep from staying up watching movies :-) Still can't get over how good they look. I really hope this starts taking off, I'm gaga over this program.

Wow, that's almost as secure as Passw0rd1234.

Tried this today. First I had to wait ten minutes for someone to show up to help me and the rest of the line. When I got up there she told me that she didn't work in the photo center and I'd have to wait on the photo person.

Finally the photo person shows up. First she explains to me that they are going to have to stamp my disk...sure no problem. Then she explains that I'll have to wait about 30 minutes per disk as it takes a while to rip and upload it. WTF? What are you ripping as I'm opting to upgrade my DVD to HD digital?

Thus far this is a dud for me. I was really hoping this would be super duper easy as I don't want to go buy a bunch of Blu Ray disks to replace my DVD collection when this could be easier and less expensive. It seems that maybe only the second is true.

Unfortunately, it sounds like this person didn't know what they were doing. They are only giving you access to the existing content on vudu. They do not have to rip or upload anything. It is basically a bunch of button pushing on the computer and nothing more. You might check with other wal-marts to see if one in your area has done this before?

I'm usually in and out in a few minutes. They push a few buttons on the computer, ring me up and I go home to watch my movies.

                    Re: Walmart Updates?

The first time I went in to my Walmart they had no clue but I paid attention to what they did as they read the instruction manual and I have helped everyone after that.

Now I am in and out of there in 5-10 minutes.

Interesting side note, for some reason whenever I bring in discs, the employees only ever select HD no matter what I have with me. 95% of my movies are HD but it's odd that they don't pay attention. Someone could bring in standard DVDs and get all HD upgrades for $2.

                        Update!

Tried my local Walmart and there was an issue with my account so I went home and oddly had to go through the registration process a second time.

Well, I sent off feedback to both Vudu and Walmart about my original experience. Didn't hear anything from either of them so yesterday I went back to my original Walmart and the lady there took my disk, stickered it, did the computer, charged me and I was done in under two minutes.

Had to laugh though. On the way home my phone rings and it's the manager of the original Walmart calling to apologize. I told him that his timing was impeccable as I just left my local Walmart where they took care of me in under two minutes. I explained to him that his associate leaving the photo area unmanned at such a busy time was unacceptable and that their level of training for a program that they have posters up everywhere for was pathetic. I got lots of apologies and an offer for me to come in for a free conversion but I'll just take my disks locally.

And for the record...she really didn't look like the type to be ripping "Aliens" for herself.

Oh yea, wasn't too terribly impressed with the quality of the HD I got. I'm wondering if it's because it's an older movie and the conversion from film to HD or however they do it isn't as good as more modern stuff but it didn't look as good as some of my Blurays for sure. I may have to get my hands on the bluray of this movie and check it to see.

Yes, some of the HDX movies in the D2D are pretty terrible for supposedly being HD. If anyone else has "Domestic Disturbance" in HDX, please let us know how they think it looks.

I went to Walmart to redeem 30 blurays and it took 1.5hrs. The lady somehow charge me for my entire list of 64 movies as opposed to just the movies i brought in. Then she attempted it again and i think she ended up erasing my entire list from the web. I wrote a support ticket just in case it wasnt her fault but i think it was. Walmart gave me a $5 gift card for my trouble.

I would have made sure that the DtoD list was the same as the movies you took in and you wouldn't have had that problem. I've been in 3 times now and haven't had any problems but my list has always matched the movies I took to Walmart.
