    Possible Amazon UV

    I just read this:

    http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/01/ama...d-ultraviolet/

Would be great if it did. I have some titles on Amazon that are also available through UV. Also, Amazon streams their titles HD through the PS3 for no extra charge when it comes to movies (SD and HD cost the same). TV shows still require a premium price for HD.

      Re: Possible Amazon UV

That would be awesome if they did this. Amazon instant video is available on hundreds of devices, such as the Roku player, and other devices that vudu isn't on. UV would be available to a much wider audience, and the demand for UV titles would definitely increase.

I think keychest has been abandoned in favor of DisneyMovies Online. The fee to convert a blu-ray to Disney movies online is 7.00! I'm not paying that much, and I doubt many people will.

I'll give you another reason this is likely. The exclusive Wal-Mart deal has ended.

I have a few movies to D2D still, but I'm waiting now to see how this plays out. It would be about time that something (anything) happens with Ultraviolet. Even the Vudu/Walmart offering has slowed to crawl.

I still think it's expanding. If Amazon does start releasing Ultraviolet movies, I believe it also benefits WallMart because Kindle users would want to add more movies and what is a better way to add movies but D2D.

"Wal-Mart, by far the nation's largest retailer of DVDs, will be the only store that can offer so-called "disc-to-digital" until its period of exclusivity ends in the fall."

First day of fall = Sept 22nd

Do we as of yet have a solid exp date for Wal-Mart's deal? I personally would guess Oct 15th... assuming the exclusive was for 6 months with a launch date of April 16th... but that's just a guess...

Hope it's soon though I want to see what the price will be using the D2D on my Samsung B-ray player (yes I bought it for that feature even after Madmod told me not to)

Also they are still adding titles but Madmod is correct it has slowed to a crawl...

                    Re: Possible Amazon UV

I want an all-in-one service. That's why Disney will not have me as a customer or at least not till the go UV. I had a Harry Potter DVD Bluray and it was through Flixster or something like that. I thought, oh great now I'll have to watch all my HP on Vudu and the one on Flix. But little did I know at the time UV is GREAT! It's in my library here.

Well... if Amazon does join in and IF they tie UV to there existing Instant Video... then it gets even better... Instant Video Prime doesn't have quite as good a selection as netfix but having the rotating content of Prime and my UV collection in the same place would be great... cept of course Amazon instant video still doesn't have an app for my Samsung smart BR but maybe they'll get around to it soon...

BTW... netflix was stupid to drop out of the UV.... I wonder if they've learned their lesson yet...

They had exclusive right to the only D2D provider during that time which prevented Samsung rolling it out its D2D on its blu-ray players. However, it wouldn't have affected Amazon UV's support because they can't do D2D anyway (nowhere to take them).

I think his statment was because the article mentions doind D2D for DVD/Blurays already purchased via amazon.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Amazon planning on opening up retail stores soon (if they haven't already.) I think I heard Seattle would be getting one soon and a couple of other west coast locations.

What would be the point of that? I think they sell TOOOOOO much different stuff to successfully open a retail store. They would have to focus on something, but then that would alienate alot of other customers who shop for different stuff on amazon. I remember telling a former coworker maybe a year or two ago to buy an xbox (i think) through amazon and he looked totally confused. He only used Amazon for books, which is how they started?

Now I use Da Zon for everything from usb charging cable to protein powder to tvs. I never bought a "book" for amazon. I doubt i'd be able to walk in to an amazon retail store and tell them to point me to the p90x videos and housewares while i'm waiting for my hdmi cables to come from the back.

Edit: so my post is kinda right, apparently they want a home store to showcase the Kindle. Why do that when you can try one out almost anywhere. I played with one at Walmart.
