Since the fee for upgrading a DVD to HDX vs SD is $3 more, it seems like it would make sense to allow customers to upgrade their existing SD digital copies to HDX for $3. Having this feature would allow you to sell way more videos and upgrades to users. It also already matches pricing you've already established.

Re: Upgrade from SD to HDX
if not from promo codes atleast from disk to digital. Just like the whole resident evil deal where the movies where only in sd form now 1 or 2 is in HDX and my blu-rays are stamped and only got sd out of it. It should of auto updated to hd but has not. The upgrade option should exist its win win for everyone.

Re: Upgrade from SD to HDX
Guys I agree that if you redeem a bluray UV code and get SD then if a HD version appears then it should be upgraded for free/automagically.
But if you choose to do a D2D of a dvd/bluray to SD for $2 then you should be stuck with it. Like someone else posted before on this topic which has been discussed alot already (use the search), opting for the SD and not waiting on HD is like buying a DVD and then going back to the store and asking for the bluray but wanting to pay the difference because you didnt know it was being released.

If you are into analogies, it's more akin to buying a frame for a picture. I can buy a picture, or a picture with a frame. If later I decide I want a frame for my picture to enhance it, I can then buy a picture frame to add; I do not have to buy an entirely new set.
In general, there is very negative sentiment out on the Internet for UltraViolet and a large degree of mistrust. I like the system, but realize I'm in the minority right now. With inconsistencies like the ones mentioned in this thread, this system will continue to struggle to gain a foothold.

Re: Upgrade from SD to HDX
If this was to ever happen it would all have to be done internally and not a Walmart. Can you imagine the amount of time it would take US to explain to the clerk:
me: I need to exchange my D2D copy from 4 months ago and upgrade it to HDX, here is my disc.
clerk: sir, HDX is $5.
me: I know but I already done this one but the new HD version is out and i would like the upgrade price.
clerk: hold on let me check on that (takes disc)
me: sweet
clerk: (5 min later) sir, this disc has already been stamped
me: i know, thats why i said i already done the SD but the new version is out and i want the upgrade
clerk: sir, the upgrade is $5 but i cant do that because this disc has been done already
me: so should i just walk away and wipe off the stamp and bring it back?
clerk: you can if you want but it'll still be $5 for the upgrade
me: Vudu started the upgrade option where it costs $3 for previous discs didnt you get the memo?
clerk: hold on let me ask somebody
me: ... (15 min later)
clerk: do you have a receipt?
me: why do i need a receipt, it has a stamp?
clerk: how do i supposed to know this disc is yours and not your friends who paid for the HD and now you want the HD for cheap?
me: i already told you the HD is new
clerk: well i cant tell that from the system and why do you want an HD version of Devil Wears Prada anyway?
me: hey dont judge me (walks off)

Re: Upgrade from SD to HDX
Though that was very amusing I think it would be more likely that if Vudu did start offering to let up grade it would be online... also I don't think it would be at $3.
I think it would go
HD Price- SD price = upgrade cost
So... upgrading would cost 3-5 dollars per title...
Honestly I would be okay with that... sure it means on some titles you may be out a buck or two... but it also means those titles you bought or redeemed in SD are still upgradeable

I'm not trying to spend $500 to convert 100 DVDs to HD at once...but I would likely pay $200 now for SD, just to have digital rights, then upgrade a few at a time at $3-5 each because ultimately I want the highest quality possible (even for my non-action films). Right now I do 3-4 per week to HD, when I have some spare cash, and it will probably take me a year to do my whole collection.

Re: Upgrade from SD to HDX
I am building up my Vudu digital collection. My only concern is this: what if Vudu goes out of business???
I want to convert my blu-rays via D2D, but what if I spend hundreds of dollars and one day Vudu is gone?
I am not trying to be a Debbie Downer. My concern stems from the fact that Vudu prices for HDX movie files are so much more expensive than buying a blu-ray disc. I find the high price point to be Vudu's only negative aspect. No one will pay more for HDX when a blu-ray is cheaper.
Until Vudu prices are lower than blu-ray, the service is not going to take off. If Vudu wants to break out big time it MUST become more competitive price wise.
I love Vudu and I would like to expand my digital collection immensely. But I am concerned because of Vudu's excessive prices for HDX files.

Not saying it's foolproof, but you have more protection against Walmart/Vudu going away than you might think.
EDIT: My comment is based on the Disc-to-Digital service, which is limited to UV movies. If you're buying them directly from Vudu, then your movies that are not UV enabled might be lost I guess.
