Mac Home Disc to Digital update?

It has been almost a month. Can we get an update on when to expect the Mac release of Home Disc to Digital? I am really excited to use it but I live in LA & I don't even know anyone who owns a PC anymore. Thanks guys.

Sorry to add to my own forum like this, but if I use Cinemanow to convert my movies will they show in Vudu? Since we are buying an UV license with the d2d program, in theory that would work right? I feel like I have read on these forums that it will work. Can anyone confirm? If so, are the movies HDX?

Yes, I've been using the CinemaNow Player on the Mac since the end of last year to D2D from DVDs -- in fact, I just wrote an article about all of the D2D services for Mac|Life magazine which will be in the May issue.

But yes, all of the CinemaNow D2D titles are UV-enabled and will transfer straight over to VUDU just fine, and in HDX if you pay $5 ea. for the HD version.

The Mac version can be tricky sometimes -- some DVDs will show only SD available while the Windows version offers HD as well, and I found a few discs that incorrectly gave me the SD version in my UV locker (THE RIGHT STUFF, ABSOLUTE POWER and UNDER SIEGE 2 immediately spring to mind, but there were others). In those cases, CN gave me a coupon good toward another HD title (even new releases priced at $22!), while the SD version stays in your UV locker. (You can use VUDU D2D to add the HD version in those cases.)

I'd actually recommend installing Windows 7 or 8 using Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop 8 on the Mac -- that way you can get the maximum number of D2D titles. Ironically, the CN Player on Mac is actually much slicker than the Windows version. In any event, their service seems to be getting better over time, so it's a good option while we wait for VUDU ToGo for Mac... :-)

          BUMP !

Unforgettably still no Mac beta yet. I'm getting tired of the PC version problems. If I'm gonna have problems I would rather it be on my native Mac.

We are waiting for a lot of things. What I do not understand is they announced all this stuff in a press lease so it obviously is not a secret why do they refuse to give customers any updates. They read the forums so they know we are all waiting and getting frustrated why not throw us a bone?

I suspect they are having more problems with the BETA on Windows then expected and it has just delayed everything.

I just remember there are a bunch of Blu-Ray player owners from a year ago still waiting for the D2D promised them when they bought the player.

Re: Mac Home Disc to Digital update?

+1 for that Mac update as well as the new iOS app -- the existing one is truthfully so bad, I never use it and stream my UV content from CinemaNow when necessary. (I watch mostly on Roku anyway.)

While VUDU has nailed it on content and UltraViolet, software is clearly not one of their strengths. I can't fathom why the website still won't let you sort your library alphabetically (or any number of other options), and VUDU's website and apps seem to have a problem remembering my login after a day or less. (Curiously, I've NEVER had to log into this message board since the first time. LOL)

That said, VUDU looks like a winner compared to CinemaNow and Flixster, but they could all learn a thing or two from Amazon or even Apple's iTunes IMHO...

I'd love to do this from my MacBook Air, so I can convert Blu Ray titles using Vudu's program while we wait for the Mac native app. I have an external Blu Ray reader/writer (Slim Portable from Samsung) that works great on the Mac side. But when I use in in Windows XP Pro (via Parallels *or* VMware) I can't seem to get it to recognize when Blu Ray titles are inserted... only DVDs work. It's getting frustrating, I feel like I am very close, and I don't feel like trying to update to Windows 8 solely to (test and see if I can) get this to work!

Any tips from folks successfully using the Windows beta app on a Mac (via Parallels or VMWare) with an external Blu Ray drive, please chime in!

I've been using it successfully since the VuduToGo Windows beta was first released, but my LG Blu-ray burner is connected via FireWire 800 (to my Thunderbolt Display, obviously connected to my MacBook Pro's Thunderbolt port). Works great using either Windows 7 or Windows 8 with latest version of Parallels Desktop 8.

I hadn't actually attempted to use it with Windows XP but just installed it there as well. DVD works fine, but Blu-rays do not, so I suspect it's something to do with XP -- maybe missing drivers, perhaps? So might be worth upgrading to Win7 or 8, I think you'll be good to go then...

Re: Mac Home Disc to Digital update?

If they would just bring out a mac beta already. This is all done under Adobe Air so there is no reason you can't have a Mac and Windows beta. I'm real, real, REAL tired of trying to get Blu-Ray's to read under the beta program under two different XP machines, or with emulation. I've wasted so much time and still can't get it to work. Sure if I threw about $200 and bought Parallels and Windows 8 JUST to use the windows beta, MAYBE. Or when out and bought a new laptop. All this shouldn't really be necessary. Even the Samsung D2D blu-ray player app promised over a year ago hasn't been released. They've replaced models twice now.

                        Sigh.

Thanks for the feedback, you're correct. It worked fine on my older PC laptop (upgraded last year to Windows 7) but it's kind of a slow, beastly rig. Ideally I wanted this on my MacBook Air so I can bring it over to my friends' house easily (they have a closet filled with Blu Rays )

I got Parallels 8 cheaply in a MacUpdate bundle last week, and also grabbed Windows 8 upgrade when Microsoft had a promo last year for $15, so this saga got me to finally pull the trigger and install it, and now it all works... including recognizing Blu Rays, so the VUDU apps D2D@H is now working for me. The native Mac app will be better of course but for now this is cool. Thanks for the assist!

You got quite the deal. I personally just can't justify nearly $200 in todays money, especially when you can get a whole laptop for a little more.

I don't blame ya. I needed Parallels 8 anyway, and got it as part of this $50 bundle (which included 9 other apps, so it's a "$600+ value.") And yes, the Windows 8 promo for $15 was a great find.

In any case, fingers crossed the native Mac app comes out soon for all of us!
