    Safe (Jason Statham) UV brightness issue on VUDU

    Does anyone else have Lionsgate's Safe on their VUDU account. I recently streamed it and the brightness was so off that it made the back bars on the top and bottom grey and washed out the entire picture. I noticed this while watching the 2-minute preview of Haunting in Connecticut as well. Is this a problem with certain Lionsgate movies? Every other movie I have streamed thus far has not had a brightness issue like the above mentioned titles.

    I watched that one not too long ago on Vudu, and I don't remember having any issues like that. I just checked it again for a few minutes and it seems just fine. I'm streaming on a Samsung BD player.

        I've noticed that Vudu movies are typically "Darker" than if I watched the same movie from a BR disc. Perhaps its a contrast issue rather than a brightness issue, but I watched a couple of movies last week (Nightmare on Elm Street / 21 Jump Street) that were so dark that I had to adjust my TV's settings. To be fair, I was in a Hotel room with a 37" LCD, not in my theater at home. I just watched Fantastic Four 2 with my son and the picture looked EXCELLENT in HDX!

          Some of their Apps output in RGB, PS3 for example. Is it possible your display does not handle RGB well (its more a common issue than you think)?

          What are you watching Vudu on?

            I'm streaming from an OPPO 103 to a Sony 65HX950.

            I did find a fix. I set a custom setting dropping the backlight to minimum and brightness to 40 compared to my regular viewing settings which is backlight at 3 and brightness at 50. This corrected the black levels and contrast with both Safe and Haunting in Connecticut 2. I do need to switch back to the regular setting for everything else otherwise the picture is too dim.... which is then the issue that someone posted above about VUDU being darker where they needed to bump up the contrast or brightness.

            I'm really surprised no one else has ever noticed this before.

              You could also use one of the settings modes in the Oppo 103 and calibrate Brightness. Using only that mode when you watch Vudu.

                I stream from a PS3 -->Onkyo TX-NR616 -->Mitsubishi DLP 73738 1080p

                I also stream from OPPO 93 --> Onkyo TX-NR1009 -->Epson 5020 projector

                The darkness is more noticeable on weaker displays, like hotel televisions

                  I was googling this issue and I came across this thread. I first noticed it a few months ago when I was trying to watch Haunting in Connecticut 2 and found brightness in the black bars to be distracting, so I ended up getting it from iTunes and was able to view it fine from there. Yesterday, I noticed this on a few other movies that seemed to be too bright, Dread (2010) and I, Frankenstein. I have a Roku Ultra connected directly to my Samsung KS8000 4K TV. I tried these two movies on my Roku Streaming Stick Plus, which is connected to a Samsung LCD 1080p set, and Dread looked fine, but I, Frankenstein still looked a little bright.
