Plus, I hate the idea of spending money and not getting the highest quality available.
Same here, HDX or not at all.

Regrets, you've had a few? But then again, too few to mention?

Hey, the sale is still going on, it's only wasting a dollar to change your mind and re-convert a DVD to HDX.

Re: D2D: Redeeing DVDs in SD or HDX?

...Well I did it. I took the plunge.

I brought in my copies of "Matchstick Men" and "The Perfect Storm" to WalMart's photo counter this morning.

I already had both titles in my library from Flixster Free-Bees, but in SD. I coughed up the $10.70 to upgrade both titles to HDX.

While I was there, I also bought the Austin Powers 3-Film Pack on DVD. It came with a UV redemption, but those went in as SD too.

Back I went. I had already done a D2D on AP#1 earlier this year, so I just did #2 & #3 for another $10.70. Considering both movies cost me new in box $10, plus the $10.70 to get them into my library as HDX, I still feel I came out ahead.

If I would of bought the two movies via EST in HDX, it would of cost more then the $21 it did to do it this way.

Anyway, I now have Matchstick Men and The Perfect Storm in as HDX titles and all three Austin Powers movies as HDX too.

I feel pretty good about myself...

          P.S.

For posterity and keeping with the subject of the thread, I also got five new titles from the $7.88 blue bin of destiny on my way home from work.

          All went into the library as HDX;
          1. Scooby-Doo: Legend of the Vampire
          2. Scooby-Doo: and the Monster of Mexico
          3. PUSH (2009)
          4. Interview with a Vampire (1994)
          5. Defiance (2008)

Oh, mystical blue bin where art thou?

I did get 'Goonies' out of the $5 DVD bucket with UV code, probably won't add HDX...perhaps I should screen my prior purchases and do some SD->HDX upgrades while the 50% off promo is going on for in-home D2D.

Edit: I found a mystical blue bin of destiny at my third-closest Wal-mart. Now if only we had a good list of $7.88 titles so I could plan my trips instead of buying everything on impulse.

$7.88 blue bin of destiny strikes again.

              This time, I was able to round out my X-Men collection. I already had "X-Men" (2000) via D2D and added to it;
              1. "X2" (2003)
              2. "X-Men The Last Stand" (2006)
              3. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (2009)

Thx o`thou austere blue bin for granting me eight dollar HDX additions to my Vudu library that roundeth outeth my X-Men'th collection'ist.

                  blue bin.

It came with a sticker. Typed in the code and, POOF!!!

No clue why it is not a D2D title. It is a UV title.

So hard to find these things at any Wal-Marts within 20 miles of me and there are many !

Many of the wally worlds either have a small video section, stock mostly DVD's, bins are often empty and new product never brought in (not that it sells out quickly), no bargain bins. Multiple combinations of above.

Funny thing is that in the less affluent areas there is a much bigger video section with a much bigger blu-ray section, multiple isles actually. The stores don't order product often or keep it merchandised through. There is also no bargain bins.

In the more affluent areas the video section is almost no exist. What is there is well maintained. Up to date. But is mostly DVD with little Blu-Ray. They don't usually have the Vudu pre-orders. They do have bargin bins (oddly enough) but they are ONLY DVD (oddly enough again).

I don't understand the logic here. It all seems backwards.

The ONLY part that kind of makes sense is that less affluent might stay in more often and go out less often and buy more movies. But then shouldn't they be MORE in stock, not LESS. And wouldn't they have MORE of the bargain bin and DVD titles that just sit there at the more affluent stores ?

I'm in the HDX or nothing camp.

Even without the promotion, the upgrade price is equivalent or less expensive than going out and re-buying a Blu-ray copy. I went through a fairly methodical research process to determine which movies should be replaced physically no matter what (ex. Singin' In The Rain, Sound Of Music), which ones didn't appear to be available on Blu-ray yet and convert those sooner (ex. Nobody's Fool, Searching For Bobby Fisher), and if the title is readily available in either format, let it ride until I find it cheap used or on sale.

I have other criteria as well, and it devolves into a unique type of madness that I won't get into here.

If you find a blue bin at a local Wal-Mart, the title you buy will have a UV or Vudu sticker on it. Don't buy it if it doesn't.

Sometimes the code is under the sticker. Sometimes it is printed on an insert inside the case. In either case, the web site you need to enter the code will be recorded there.

I too have been bitten by the HDX bug. The SD in my collection are ones I got free from Flixster or ones I bought EST before I knew any better.

Two of the ones I got free from flixster, I upgraded to HDX via D2D a few weeks ago. "Matchstick Men" and "The Perfect Storm" I owned on DVD and coughed up the $10.70 to have my two SD versions made into HDX titles.

BTW, IMHO "The Sound of Music" really pops in Vudu HDX. The movie is brilliant in artistically conveying universal themes to connect to the audience. It is amazing how timeless a film it is. An audience in 2013 can enjoy it just as much as one who saw it originally in the movie theater in 1965.

I have three super centers near me. Only one has a blubin. Go figure. I think these decisions are made by the local store managers and reflect the purchasing habits of the local population. This is just speculation though. I do not really know why the blubin is so elusive.

                          Photo of my local blubin:

If you look closely, you can see all those yummy purple UV stickers on the cases. Such a concentration of HDX titles for eight dollars. WOW!!! It almost seems illegal.
