Fandango Forum Guidelines

The Fandango are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango experience. Here, Fandango customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango Streaming and Fandango Streaming related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Although the primary purpose of these forums is to help Fandango customers with questions and/or problems with their Fandango Streaming service, there are also off-topic areas available within the Fandango Forums for users to chat with like-minded people, subject to the limitations below.

Please post all comments in English. When posting a comment in the Fandango Forums, please conduct yourself in a respectful and civil manner. While we respect that you may feel strongly about an issue, please leave room for discussion.

Fandango reserves the right to refrain from posting and/or to remove user comments, including comments that contain any of the following:

1. Obscenities, defamatory language, discriminatory language, or other language not suitable for a public forum
2. Email addresses, phone numbers, links to websites, physical addresses or other forms of contact information
3. "Spam" content, references to other products, advertisements, or other offers
4. Spiteful or inflammatory comments about other users or their comments
5. Comments that may potentially violate the DMCA or any other applicable laws

    I write this on August 15th.

    In June, Disney released the first title using their DigitalCopy+ system for Digital Copy redemptions (OZ: The Great & Powerful).

    Here is a quote from the OZ thread on this forum leading up to the release of that title:
    The Itunes logo has not been eliminated from DVD/Blu-ray packaging. Have you ever looked at the back of a Universal DVD? They still have iTunes digital copy, in addtion to UV. Disney will also have iTunes, vudu and Amazon. Lionsgate also offers both options. But, yes, it's good for Disney to offer vudu copies, but it has not abandoned iTunes at all.
    What a turn of events in less then two months.

    Since that time, Disney studios has released two titles using their DigitalCopy+ which did not have iTunes as an option. They are soon to release The Muppet Movie in Bluray Combo Pack, and it too will not have iTunes as an option.

    This departure from iTunes as a digital copy method has caused an uproar with the abrupt change.

    The studio had a boiler plate response, indicating iOS users could use either the Vudu 2-Go iOS app or the Amazon iOS app to enjoy playback of the title on their iOS devices.

    Here is the transcript of one such response:
    Thank you for your email regarding Digital Copy Plus. We appreciate the opportunity to address this issue in greater detail.

    The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood are not available as an iTunes Digital Copy.

    However, you can still enjoy the Digital Copy on your iOS device through either the VUDU or the Amazon Instant Video app. Both apps are available through the App Store on your Apple device and are free to download.

    I have redeemed, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, The Muppets, and Peter Pan: Return to Never Land. None of them had the iTunes option, only Vudu or Amazon.

      did all come in as HDX titles into your Vudu library?

        All excpet for Peter Pan. Not sure why that one did not...waiting on a response. We did watch it last night, and to be honest, it didn't look bad in SD. So if that is the way that one is for me, I am okay with that. I guess because it is animation, but the SD version of it looks miles better than any SD movie (free ones for signing up) or trailer.

          I did like that iTunes had HD for my iPad. No one else offers it today.

            Wierd. My wife and I were just talking about that.

            Her MacBook Pro has HDX playback of a title she uses for school that we just bought. It is called "Harvest of Empire" and is a well done documentary on latin american immigration.

            Her iPad was only SD playback.

            In her school, she could only get the iPad Vudu 2-Go app to work. Her MacBook Pro would not connect. She thinks the SD may of had some play, but I am thinking something with the school firewall policy.

            Anyway, sorry you lost HD mobile playback for titles going forward from them. Maybe Vudu will update their iOS app sometime soon to include HDX playback or at least HD 720.

                Thats just a Wal-mart pre-purchase. Of course it's vudu exclusive. The regular edition should be vudu, Amazon, and iTunes.

                    That is the big question.

                    Has Disney Studios just abandon iTunes for re-release of catalog titles or is it the new DigitalCopy+ policy?

                    I think the first one which will be telling is Ironman 3.

                    Someone mentioned on a different forum that they heard it will have iTunes.

                    When I saw tLR, I thought that may have been the clincher, but I guess as the pre-order it can not be counted.

                      Blu-ray.com shows the Lone Ranger as an Ultraviolet release. It may still be exclusive to Vudu, but it does look to be UV.

                          Blu-ray.com is notorious for listing every release with a Digital Copy as UV. I wouldn't read anything into it.

                              But it's just a cut-and-paste job. I'd believe it when I saw a picture of an actual movie cover with the logo.
