    Ultraviolet code and the cost to get HDX after.

    I redeemed a DVD (NOT BLURAY DISK) code and got SD (That's fine). However to get HD or HDX I must pay another $14.95 BUT if I insert the disc and upconvert that way or at the walmart store it's $5.00

    Did I do something wrong????

    I guess I get it, everyone would buy SD and just pay $5.00 more but can't they do that anyways with the disks?

      You're not missing anything, if that's what you're asking. If you want to buy a DVD but have the HDX digital copy, disc to digital is the way to go. The thing is, though, that disc to digital can sometimes take a while to be an option on newer releases.

        I found a pawn shop that sells two bluray disc titles for $8.56.

        They sell six DVDs for $5.35.

        I picked up four bluray and six dvd titles this weekend. Who cares about the condition of the media. They are just going to be used for D2D and then stored in my garage boxes, never to be played directly anyway.

        I had a copy of "Reign of Fire" (2002) in my hands which I wanted to get, but realized it was a Touchstone title and had to put it back on the shelf since no D2D from that studio. Argh....

          If you wanted HDX initially from a DVD, you could have selected that instead of SD, if it was an option, and it almost always is. It wouldn't have cost you $5 more, just $5 initially. Also, if you do 10 or more (at one time) you get 50% off the total.

          So to answer your question, "Did I do something wrong?"

          1. Yes - If you wanted HDX forthat movie you should have chosen HDX when you initially converted it. It would have saved you some money.
          2. No - If you are find with SD of that film you did the D2D process correctly or if you wanted to upgrade the film later.

            Arkwood is referring to redeeming a UV code that came with a DVD, not doing a Disc to Digital conversion.

            For some movies Sony actually offers the ability to upgrade to HD at the time of code redemption for $3. See this thread.

            They are the only studio that I heard of doing this.

            Right now there is no other SD to HDX upgrade option without paying the full price, either as a direct purchase or Disc to Digital transaction.

              Ah, I see. I read right over the "code" part! In that case, nothing you can do excpet pay the $5 for HDX or compile 10 or more for 50% off. I have only seen the Sony upgrade at $5 each. $3 would be much more reasonable.
