    Bond movies.

I checked they are all available on Vudu in HDX at this time.

As an owner of the Bond 50 blu-ray set (plus Skyfall), why are none of these movies available for conversion (even if it's not to UV)? Skyfall had a UV code, so MGM must be at least somewhat on-board with that right?

The Iron Man movies are a similar enigma. Available to purchase or redeem as a UV code but not for conversion.

Add the Pirates of the Caribbean movies too. I guess this must be a studio thing because I would think Vudu would want to allow this if possible.

Unfortunately, Skyfall was to little to late and MGM is now undergoing bankruptcy, so the back catalog is in limbo.

      Re: Bond movies.

As I recall, MGM came through its bankruptcy a few years back and is thriving now, with the huge success of Skyfall and The Hobbit, both of which they co-financed with other studios.

As for Skyfall being UV, I am speculating that Fox (which distributes MGM's content on home video) being a UV partner helped make that happen. However, I think Fox also distributes the older library titles too, so I'm not sure why those aren't UV--maybe MGM controls digital rights to library content?

Iron Man and Pirates of the Caribbean are under the Disney umbrella and are not UV. Remember Vudu is not the same as UV.
Disc to Digital conversion is an Ultraviolet program for Ultraviolet titles only.

You, me and everyone else are waiting on the MGM catalog to become UV. Disney won't happen in the foreseeable future. MGM is now out of Bankruptcy for a couple of years, so maybe it will happen soon.

The bankruptcy is more or less over but paperwork on catalog titles is a mess. Different people own different movies. Different people have different rights to different versions for different distribution methods. In some cases certain "parts" of footage are owned by different people or it's unclear who own's title.

The bankruptcy didn't settle till late 2010. MGM did little of anything in 2011. 2012 saw "some" efforts.

For the most part a majority of the pre 1986 catalog is owned by Ted Turner with Warner Brothers owning the distribution rights.

            Re: Bond movies.

The studio was bid on unsuccessfully in 2009 by Warner, and came out of bankruptcy in 2010, under new management. It appears to be back in the black, according to this, it has little to no debt anymore. It does say that it could be acquired by another studio in the future. I hope Lionsgate does something with it if that's the case. They both are associated with lions, so they would fit nicely.

That is what I was missing. I thought the conversion program was a Vudu thing, not a UV thing!
