I have found another low ball method to bulk up the library.

I have many pawn shops around me. It seems like more then half have movies for sale. The price at each pawn shop that has movies is $2 for a DVD title and $5 for a Bluray title. It seems like they all are price fixing, but still fine with me.

When you add tax for the subsequent in-store D2D, the cost per title to get it into the Vudu library ends up to be ~$7.50. It is about the same price for DVD or Bluray, assuming you're doing D2D into HDX only.

DVD - $2@PS + $5.35@WalMart = $7.35
Bluray - $5@PS + 2.14@WalMart = $7.14

Nice thing about this approach is I have been able to snipe many titles from my wish-list at half the cost of what it would of been had I done straight up EST purchases.

Wanted to share in case it is helpful for anyone else. I have found it a very successful method to add titles at a lower cost. Discovering a wealth of titles in my surrounding pawn shops has been a rewarding adventure over the past several weeks.

I have done the same, but at .99 cents per DVD at one local shop, + 2.50 to upgrade to HD, it makes it 3.50 per movie. Much better than $7.

That's only if you do 10 or more at a time. I haven't had 10 at any one time since the beginning of the special promotion earlier this year.

I am an "in-store" man. I like the touch'ie feel'ie human interaction. Makes it more fun for me, but he is right that it is way cheaper to strategist into using the x10 discount. If you can manage it, that is for sure the way to go.

It is truly an amazing deal to have pristine 1080p EST copies of titles for such a low cost. Nowhere else has such low cost access to 1080p titles.

looking at 50% price advantage to both Amazon Instant and iTunes at least. Sometimes as much as 70%.

Yeah, I've done a lot of pawn shop cruising for D2D titles, too. I'll always convert them in batches of 10 or more. There are several pawn shops that will do 3 for $5 DVDs, and one with a surprisingly large selection at 75 cents each not too far from my office.

Unless it's a movie we really like and I want to rewatch the special features, I'll then sell them to a used entertainment place for $0.75-1.00 each. Factor that in and it's a crazy cheap way to build a library. Plus, the hunt is fun, pawn shops can make for interesting people watching and at that price I can check out movies I probably wouldn't otherwise.

I normally stick to titles on my wish-list. Once in awhile I come across a title I had not thought of and add it.

As an example, "Volcano" (1997) with Tommy Lee Jones is a worth while title. When I saw it for $2.00, I did not hesitate adding it to my stack after I validated it was D2D eligible even though it was not one off my wish-list.

Finding hidden nuggets like that is fun. Plus the hunt for wish-list titles. I agree with you that it is a fun way to spend some time.

I to finally hit up my local pawn shop for the first time but it was nothing like I was hoping for. Pretty run down compared to others I had been to. And not that big of a selection of DVD's

I just got back from digging out another nugget. A title called "The Namesake" (2007). Got a very high tomato meter rating (86%). Never heard of it before, but for sure seems worth the $7.35 it will take to get it HDX into my library.

Funny thing I have found about pawn shops. Normally there are not recent titles. Folks tend to hold onto those.

Also, the selection will change if you return every week or two. I tend to make trips on my lunch hour about every two weeks looking to see who is new on the shelves.
