So, I am baffeled here...can someone please explain if I am understanding this correctly.....I am under the impression that Disc to Digital is a Cloud Service that requires me to pay at least $2.00 per title to upload a movie that I already own, just so that I may have the ability watch my own movie wherever I am?

The whole idea seems so counter-productive and completely counter intuitive. Why would I pay to watch a movie that I already own and then go through all of these time wasting gyrations to stream or download it again?

I don't get it. I'm reasonably intelligent and I encourage new technology, but Disc to Digital seems kind of silly to me.

    Someone, please enlighten me.

    Thanks,

The original post is actually a valid point. Years before D2D was a thing, several tools have existed to facilitate making your own digital copies. The problem is, as one poster pointed out, most of the tools exist in a grey area at best (ex. Handbrake), while decryption software is technically outright illegal, at least in the US.

I think D2D was the best solution they could have come up with, and honestly, I'm surprised it exists, what with Hollywood's reputation for constantly trying to gouge customers. I think they finally realized that asking everyone to re-buy their entire collection digitally, at full price, was a no-go. The fact VUDU gives 50% off for 10 or more at a time sweetens the deal significantly.

For me, D2D is just a no-brainer. I get a legal studio-encoded version of the movie for $2, or I can upgrade my DVD to HD for $5. I also don't have to use my computer for encoding, freeing up my gaming PC for actual gaming. Further, there's no longer a need for me to dedicate a PC/laptop/NAS to serving up media around the house. Unless you have a horrible internet connection or extremely limited bandwidth from your ISP, I'd really hard-pressed to find something about D2D that isn't beneficial.

I agree although it's been quite a long time since I got the 50% off since I converted all of those that are available to convert a long time ago. I'm just waiting on Disney and MGM to climb on board.
