I have a Roku 3, and it's great. Does everything I would want a streaming device to do, including native DLNA streaming, The Blaze, Netflix, Amazon Prime, TT, Youtube, and many religious channels. Don't know why anyone would want a FireTV??

Well, as I said before, the FireTV has a much faster CPU, and also 4x the memory. However, that doesn't mean much to me if it doesn't play what I want it to play. If it ever gets a Vudu app, though, I'll probably buy one, as I currently only have one Roku and it's too old to run the Vudu app.

I think Vudu on a Fire TV would be a great thing. I was looking into getting a Fire TV but not seeing Vudu is making me want to look for another device.

Sideloading the Vudu apk onto Kindle Fire HD[X] and Fire TV is an option, app works fine. I use sideloading to transfer apps that aren't fully up-to-date in Amazon market, or are simply unavailable (or that I've already paid for in Play Store).

The problem with this approach is support. If you sideload an apk, neither Amazon nor Vudu is going to help you with issues. They will both say "That app is not supported on this device".

Sideloading also requires disabling certain security settings, and this is definitely not something the average user should do, especially considering they may forget to turn it back on after they've downloaded what they need.

I thought the Flixster problem looked really basic, but then appreciated the difference. My large library actually loaded quite quick. The first movie I tried loaded in HD and looked GREAT. Every subsequent, and I mean EVERY subsequent movie gave me that same warning that HD was not available; like when you try and play back certain movies on the web through Vudu.

That really KILLED Fire TV for me. For now anyway. Update flixster, add M-Go, or better yet add Vudu and I'll try it again.

Funny - Amazon picked the wrong spokesman for their FireTV spots. Gary Busey can't pronouce the word "fire". If I had not already know about Amazon's FireTV beforehand I would have no idea what he was saying. Sounds like FaTV.

The regular Vudu app for Android is SD-only, though it's better quality than other UV providers' SD (and IMO pretty close to Flixster's HD). The only Vudu Android app I'm aware of in HD is the one that came with my Vizio Co-Star (Google TV).

I also received mine today after selecting 2-day shipping, but overall it's a disappointment when it comes to watching UV content... Flixster is the only choice, took forever to display my library and despite showing HD badges on those titles, throws up a warning when playback begins that HD is NOT available for every title I've tried so far (including those from parent company Warner Bros.).

Help us, Obi-VUDU... you're our only hope! LOL

If you have an iPhone or iPad, Apple TV should be your first consideration without question, simply because of the integration. Chromecast would be next, and then a toss-up between Roku and FireTV (or insert streaming box here), depending on your needs.

I have two iPhones, three iPads, Mac Mini, MacBook Air and I still use my Apple about 1% as much as I use my Roku's, but more than I use my ChomeCast.

It's much cheaper to add movies (and music) to a non Apple product and their is simply way more content available for non Apple devices. Likewise non Apple devices are typically more cutting edge hardware based. For my phone, tablet, and computer the trade off is worth it for what Apple does offer. For a streaming like Apple TV it's just too many years behind the curve. I still hold out hope I can have an Apple stream and be 100% Apple again, and Disney Movies Anyware was a nice step. Not quite there yet.

Can't buy from flixster, the others are subscription based and don't sell items.

Flixster sell's software. Not in ALL their applications but they DO sell. Oddly enough depending on the application they will give you the price to but from them AND list all other services selling including Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, etc.

The design of its good and all, and it has potential, however it lacks any real content to be honest. I was hoping it could replace my SmartTV but it fell way short.

No HBOGo. No Vudu. Those two alone are deal breakers for me. Granted they did have Showtime Anytime but that is enough for me to justify and 150$ expenditure.

With the exception of the Showtime Anytime app, there is nothing that the Amazon FireTV does that I dont already get with my SmartTV. And even if I didnt have a SmartTV, I think I would prefer going with either Roku or a Smart Enabled bluray player over the Amazon FireTV at this time simply because of the lack of content.

FireTV is only $99, did you pay $150? Content will grow over time, but you are right there is no compelling reason to get one if you are satisfied with your other options.

As with anything there are going to be things one likes and dislikes.

Overall I would say my Fire is my favorite streamer now. It's much faster, smoother, and simply more "polished" than my day to day workhorse Roku 3.

That said I thought I might be able to live with the Flixster app for UltraViolet. Not as nice as Vudu but it had it's own charm and simplicity. First movie came up in HD and looked great. Every subsequent movie "can not be played in HD at this time" and looks horrible. Plus it spits out all these coded messages while it's getting the movie ready.

If Vudu would do a Fire app I would TOTALLY ditch the Roku 3 now. No hesitation. Even without 3D. I would be willing to switch to the Oppo BDP-103 just for Vudu 3D.

That's just the Kindle Fire and even that's meaningless since you can sideload the VUDU app onto the Kindle Fire HD and HDX and it works just fine.

Thankfully the Fire TV device is superfluous for me since I have an Oppo-103 which has the VUDU app and 3D and DD+ 7.1 support. But I had to get the Roku stick in order to add Amazon Instant Video. I'm not sure why that wasn't included on the actual player.
