Disc to Digital and TV Shows

Hoping a Vudu employee will answer this, but do you think we will ever be able to put our older TV Shows on Vudu through Disc to Digital? I really hope this will become a solution one day.

I'd love to see this option as well.

All depends on the studios really...

I think "most" everyone understands that the studios control the license.

We have older television shows like Friends by NBC and the first couple of seasons of Little House On The Prairie by Lionsgate that are UltraViolet if you by the new version of the movies. UV seems to be a new trend with television content.

So perhaps the question to be asked is this...are you aware of any discussions that have occurred regarding disc-to-digital for these UV shows instead of trying to force owners of the DVDs to repurchase newer copies that include a redemption code? If it's not even being discussed then it for sure will not be happening any time soon. If it is being discussed then maybe there is at least "hope".

I think that D2D for our television DVDs would really boost UltraViolet. Most everyone I know watches more television than movies.

This would be a GREAT addition for us. I have about 40 tv seasons that I would love to have on my Vudu account.

I would love to see this happen as well. I have a number of TV seasons of various different TV Shows on Blu-ray and DVD's that were never released with a Digital Copy of any kind. Yea, I can buy them on Vudu in SD or HDX for another $2 to $3 per episode but I just can't see myself doing that.

Even new releases like Longmire Season 1 & 2 on Blu-ray, coming out next week, does not come with a Digital or UV copy. I actually cancelled my order on Amazon because of this. If it would have come with a UV code, I would have bought it. For now, I passed.

There is a Twin Peaks Blu-ray set coming out in a month or so. Now I know I can purchase HD Digital Episodes of Twin Peaks but this set appears to not come with any UV code either. Disappointing.

I applaud the (2) seasons of Little House on the Prairie S1 and S2 coming out with UV codes. I purchased both!!

It would be a great solution for mini-series like Band of Brothers or The Pacific, as well. I have both Blu-rays but would like to stream them as well but I don't want to have to purchase them all over again on Vudu just to stream them.

It's just a matter of time but I think the studios are just trying to squeeze every dime they can out of syndication rights/netflix/streaming. Yes, it would boost uv and it is an inevitable advancement in technology but the longer they wait, the more money that is in it for them.

The reason they include UV on sopranos sets and friends sets is because it is an incentive to buy. One reason why they probably don't offer these up for d2d is because it might **** off netflix who just paid $120m for the rights to Friends.

Offering up d2d for something like Friends would just be nickel and dimeing us when they could just cash in over at netflix/amazon/hulu. UV is getting a slow roll out for tv shows and I doubt that there will be much of an increase for a while.

Would love this. I had all of Veronica Mars just waiting for the day we could D2D shows. I ended up trading them in. I'm sure the studios would rather us pay nearly $50 for one season than let us D2D 6 DVDs for $25, even cheaper if you added 10 discs or more.

I know it would probably be preferable to have TV shows added to D2D, but for those of you who have a Roku, I recommend you look into PLEX. I've ripped all of my TV shows to my NAS using MakeMKV, and now I can flip through them all with the remote, with full descriptions and thumbnails for not only every show but every episode.

If anyone needs help trying it out, hit me up with a PM, or just check out the PLEX forums, which are pretty active.

I was able to add the season one collection, but not the other seasons.
