Wal-Mart Stamping Discs?

I went down to Wal-Mart to D2D some more discs, and they told they now have abide by a rule whereby they must stamp your discs once they've been D2D'd. Is this something new, or is it something that's always been in place but my local store just wasn't enforcing it up until now? This really bothers me . . . I am very picky about the discs in my collection; and if I buy a used disc I only buy like new discs, I don't buy rentals or anything with stickers, etc - I like my discs to be pristine. Now if I want to D2D one of my discs, I basically have to deface it in the process? WTF?

It's always been policy to stamp the discs since day one of the disc-to-digital program.

I've read elsewhere that you can get rid of the ink with a cotton ball and some rubbing alcohol.

I'm like you. I keep my discs in perfect condition. So far, I've only ever had one Walmart employee ever try to stamp one of my discs. She did the order but had not yet rung me up. She was about to stamp the disc and I told her to stop. She said she's required to. i told her she is NOT required to as no other Walmart employee has ever tried to stamp the disc before. She was insisting on stamping it. I told her that if she did, I would refuse to pay. I said I don't want the service if the discs are stamped. I threatened to get a manger involved (and I would have). She finally agreed not to stamp them.

The stamp is infuriating. We cinephiles work hard to keep our discs perfect, and scratch free. We want those discs in perfect mint condition. And then someone comes at it with a black stamp? Uh uh. I don't think so.

But no, the bulk of Walmart employees do not use the stamp. I think they are smart enough to know how much that would infuriate a collector.

That has always been the "policy" but they have never done it since the stamps either dry up or ink smears everywhere. I have over 1300 disc that I have converted, some through VUDU ToGo (which doesn't stamp by the way) and many in two different Walmart stores. Walmart has not stamped a single disc.

It's a joke to try to start stamping now, especially in light of Vudu TOGO and the other two at home disc-to-digital services that we use.

They've been doing it since day one; the only Walmart I've ever used for in-store D2D has always done it. (I'm not sure any other store locally knows how, and I'm in Walmart's home state.) The intent was to prevent the same disc from being used to create multiple D2D copies, though there's nothing to prevent anyone from doing that with in-home D2D (at Vudu or other retailers). So far I've been able to remove the stamp from some but NOT all movies, though I haven't tried rubbing alcohol yet.

As stated, the stamp should have been used from day one. Both my local WalMart's use the stamp. I have done it once, but I don't want my discs stamped either, so I don't use it.

I see the rationale behind the stamped disc but with vudu2go i don't think it is necessary anymore. Imagine my horror when the walmart employee said oh darn the stamp is dry let me take a BLACK MAGIC MARKER and write walmart on your disc I said you can do that as long as I can write my name in BLACK MAGIC MARKER all over your car the employee laughed and said I see your point

When I first began going to Walmart to have my movies converted, they mentioned that they were supposed to be stamping them, but that they hadn't yet received their stamp, so they weren't doing it. As far as I know, they still don't, in fact, they almost never even know how to do kit.

If you demand that they don't stamp it, they most likely will not. It's simply not worth it to them to have to put up with a raging customer. (And believe me, I was raging when they tried to stamp one of my discs.)

As stated, the stamp is irrelevant because they keep encouraging you to do it at home now, and at home it doesn't get stamped.

All I'm saying is, the Walmart employee is following directions, which says the discs must be stamped. If you have a problem with the policy, you should take it up with Walmart corporate, not the employee.

That wouldn't work. If someone is literally about to stamp your disc, it's going to be the employee, not a corporate type. To stop said disc from being stamped at that moment, it's the guy holding the stamp that you must stop. By the time you get in touch with corporate, it'd be too late - the disc would be stamped by then.
