    Disney/Dreamworks movies Disc to Digital

I heard a rumor that Disney/Lucas Films might finally be making the Star Wars available digitally. Is there any word if that might include disc to digital? Also I see that I can buy Disney movies but I already own them when is Disney going to let us do disc to digital? I would prefer not having to buy the movie twice. I own Wall-e, The Incredibles, National Treasure 1 and 2. What about DreamWorks movies? Catch Me If You can and so on? Anyways just wondering any thoughts?

As far as Star Wars goes, from Wikipedia: "20th Century Fox still retains the distribution rights to the first two Star Wars trilogies, owning permanent rights for the original film Episode IV: A New Hope, while holding the rights to Episodes I?III, V, and VI until May 2020."
If Star Wars goes digital, there is too much money to be made for them to offer Disc to Digital up front. Maybe they would reissue the sets with digital codes included though.

As far as Disney goes set up a DisneyMovies Anywhere account and redeem your DMR codes as they may use this route instead of discs for digital conversion. Hopefully Vudu will join as a partner soon.

To expand on what Grey Ghost said, Disney is not participating in UltraViolet, and UltraViolet is required for Disc to Digital. I do hope they will join someday, but I do not think they will until UV gains more mainstream acceptance. In other words, it needs to have 25 or 30 million users, and a mainstream storefront, such as Amazon, Google play, etc.

Star Wars may end up like Indiana Jones: It's available on Vudu, but not as UV (and thus not D2D). Generally, anything produced by Lucasfilm isn't UV or D2D, even though it's not on DMA either.

I don't think Disney will join UV; IMO it's more likely Vudu & other UV services will join DMA instead. If so, you're more likely to see DMR code redemption from Lucasfilm titles than D2D.

I hope that Vudu and Disney do collaborate and come up with something better than DMA. DMA is useless to us since we have no way to watch movies on our TV. Accessing our DMA library through Vudu would be great!

I actually do have a way, but it's a bit tricky: Though my PC has its own monitor & speakers, it also has an HDCP-compliant HDMI output connected to my home theater & TV; I could play them that way from either the DMA site or iTunes. (There's also Apple TV or HDMI out from an iDevice, but neither of us wanna go there.) Still I'd rather see DMA do Android, either directly or thru Vudu; then I could play them on my Vizio Co-Star (Google TV) & Nook HD.
