Re: PS3 Slim and Vudu audio problems

I would like to bump this thread for further discussion and updates.

I have a PS3 slim with the latest 4.1 update. I also have an Onkyo TXNR609 to which the PS3 is connected via HDMI. As others stated previous, BR discs works great with a full array of Dolby Digtal surround options but streaming content from Vudu is converted to multichannel (what is displayed on my Onkyo receiver) and is definitely not the same as DD 5.1 surround. Hasn't there been any updates in over a year?

One work around I discovered is to change the audio output from the PS3 to optical and simply us optical for the DD 5.1 surround sound (my Onkyo receiver displays DD when using optical + Vudu) though I want to know why the PS3 cannot output DD+ 5.1 surround with HDMI but can output DD 5.1 surround via optical?

I know I am likely making true audiophiles cringe with my interchanging of terms. My Onkyo is new this year (2012) and I know it can support all these codecs so it is the PS3 that is not outputting it correctly. Whether that is something I can change via a configuration or a technical limitation (still?) remains to be clarified and is my principle question here.

    Thanks.

Sorry . i didn't realize that the movie qas DD+ and only stereo. i didn't even know that was possible, since this was a newer movie. i figured it must be 5.1. i looked and it was only stereo.

    Mogulman,
which movie / quality were you watching? The PS3 cannot output DD+ for games. If this was a 2.0 DD+ then the PS3 will use PCM stereo.

I just started using vudu with all the new hype. I thought it was cool until I realized that a Dolby digital plus movie was only being sent as regular 2 channel stereo to my Onkyo 806 receiver.

What gives? Is this being fixed? If not, i'm giving up on Vudu.

Sorry I'm new. i didnt realize that DD+ doesnt neccesarily mean 5.1

It's been almost 3 months since I last posted to this thread. Could we get an update on what progress is being made or has Sony just given up on ever getting 24fps/DD+ output to work in a internet stream?

After all this time it's getting harder to believe Sony is doing anything to resolve these problems.

Sony is aware of these issues (DD+, video formats). This is not VUDU specific. They will fix them for all VOD services on the PS3. We do not have any dates though.

However, we did fix the volume issues with our last patch release . Please let us know if you still have issues with low volume.

Agreed. This needs to be fixed to attract the kind of customer Vudu is marketing to. Before somebody else does.

That's unfortunate. DD+ and 1080p/24 support is what differentiates Vudu from the other movie streaming services. Otherwise it's not much better than what PSN or Zune has to offer.

I've got a PS3 hooked up to a TV by HDMI. That's my entire setup. That thread doesn't seem to cover any settings that apply to me (unless I'm missing something). I admit I'm retarded when it comes to this stuff. At least netflix works perfectly fine... I guess I'll watch that.
