    HDX Unwatchable

I have been having terrible buffering issues over the last month or so, where a movie in HDX is unwatchable. I have the same issue with HD movies from time to time as well. The movie begins buffering immediately and after a few moments asks me to switch to a lower quality. The time of day does not matter, peak hours or not. My download speed tests at 12mbs. I have tried different cables, running a cable directly from the modem and different VUDU enabled devices such as the BX100 and a Samsung blu ray player,a BD D5700 using the VUDU app. I spent a while on the phone today with VUDU customer service today and though the gentlman was very helpful, no solution was really found. He told me to bridge my router to see if that helped. I have no knowledge in this area. Why would this make a difference anyway? My system is set up now just the same as it has been a year ago and I have never had a problem streaming movies in HDX until recently. I understand that Hulu and Netflix may not require as much bandwith, but I have had no issues with these two services.

It seems HDX streaming is a common problem of late, most people having the same issues, according to the threads I have been reading. I've loved the VUDU service for years now. It's been second to none on all levels. I can't remember the last time I rented a physical hard copy of a movie. I am not asking to be credited for anything, but paying $5.99 for HDX and only being able to watch the movie in HD is wearing thin.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Chmorgan,

If your network has a double NAT, placing your modem in bridge mode may help alleviate some of the buffering that you are seeing.

Could you post your case number? I'd be happy to take a look at what's been done so far.

      Dan,

Thank you for replying to my post. I'm just now seeing your response. I'm still unable to watch anything in HDX, even though the speed test is good and all bars are green in the upper right corner of my screen. I had my ISP come out to the house and they could not find any issues. My case number is 261719. Please let me know if you need any more info from me. I love my VUDU amd hope tp be able to keep using it.

      Thanks again,

      Chris

I just wanted to touch base here for anyone that has read my posts. Vudu has been working great for me for the past few weeks now. I've had a technician out to my house twice from my local ISP and he could not find anything wrong either time. I don't know how or why, but like I said, things are fine now. I'm a happy camper once again. I really do love my Vudu!

I'm very interested in your issue, as I've also had problems playing HDX on Vudu through a Samsung 5700 Blu-ray player. I've recently tested the same network connection using a Sony Blu-ray player on the same account, same HDMI monitor... worked like a charm. I only get black on screen when trying to play HDX through the Samsung, although for awhile I got video and audio, but the stream had trouble buffering. It's not the network though, as the Sony never misses a beat. Any info on what might have fixed your issue would be appreciated.

I've wondered if the Samsung 5700 was at issue with the Vudu app not being current on the device. With that said, I do believe there were network issues invloved somewhere along the line, because I had issues with the Vudu BX100 and another Samsung BD player as well, but none of them were as severe as with the 5700. This hasn't been proven, but after some more checking from someone much more network savy than myself, my Ooma phone system was sending out network errors which seems to have been fouling other devies up. I've switched to an LG BD690 and things are working fine. I haven't had the heart to retest the 5700. I'm just glad things are in working order again. Good luck!
