To bring this further off-topic, did you know that in Japan they like to use DVD recorders and that's why Blu-Ray is dominating in Japan right now? I could never understand the appeal of recording regular programming on media since it'll be watched once....

There's lot's of Japenese tourists here in San Diego, and they are all video freaks. I'm constantly asked to take group photos for them here on Mission Beach.

I did read about some Samsung Hidef recorders that are only available in Japan. Maybe the MPAA doesn't reach that far (yet).

I think people w/o DVRs do this...

Shoot, I have entire series of TV shows kept in my recorded library. I've got probably almost a Terabyte of TV shows recorded...

Oh, you can get lots of cool stuff in Japan. You don't know what consumer electronics really is until you spend an afternoon in Akihabira! It will blow your mind. It is well worth it if you are a gadget geek. It's Mecca for people like us!

I used to do this with HD between 2001 and 2004 when I recorded HD with my HiPix cards in a couple of PCs(I mostly stopped in 2004 when DirecTV came out with the first HD TiVo). I had several Terabytes of HD movies and TV shows at one time. And that was mainly on 250GB drives. I can't believe i paid close to $300 each for a dozen 250GB drives back then. Is till have a bunch of those drives lying around but I haven't touched them in years. I'll need to go through them and see what I have. I remember recording Alias in HD from the beginning of the SHow as well as the HD recordings of the INdiana Jones movies.
