    Re: HDX Movies?!

Amazon Preorder is the best model, only problem I see is Vudu tends to add SD/HD/HDX offerings at different times. I guess youd need a default ordering of formats so you could pick set it it up to receive them in the order you like. Kinda like the Netflix BR #1 DVD #2 options.

On the Obama ads...just keep watching and you will finally believe just as Joe the Plumber believes.
The suggestion wasn't to put the movie on your box before you rent or purchase it. It was to pre-order it so that, the moment it becomes rentable or purhcaseable, you rent or purchase it and it gets downloaded to your box. Once it is there you have 30 days to watch it (just like any other rental) or at your leisure for purchasing.

You could just go through the standard process of renting (and picking the format). The difference would be that, for things that were not available until a later date, the purchase or rental would be deferred until then. Just like I can go to Amazon and "buy" a video game a month before it's released. I buy it like anything else on Amazon.com. The only difference is that I'm not charged until the game becomes available and ships. That would require very little new UI work.

          Exactly.

          1) You preorder via your wish list or whatever
          2) On the date it becomes available, as soon as its ready for rent/purchase (whatever you use), you are charged immediately.
          3) Its then automatically downloaded to you box in the format you prefer, or atleast in order of your preferred formats (HDX/HD/SD)

So are you implying that there is NO content lurking on my VUDU box to facilitate P2P sharing unless I paid for it?? It might be that way, but certainly not my understanding.

No, that's not what we are saying. There may or may not be.

However, what we have been told is that NEW content that is being released cannot be released to the boxes (ie: from Vudu's servers) until the day of the release. Now, I suspect that might not be 100% true as the heads for all new movies come down several days in advance otherwise the movie would not "instantly" available at 12:01 AM....

What can you do with 30 seconds of a movie?

Allow the Vudu customer to hit "play" and start watching instantly while the internet download process actually begins. This gives the Vudu a functional advantage over the other internet movie services.

                    Re: HDX Movies?!

Just watched the HDX Love Guru.

It was a pretty good comedy.

It might sound silly, but what really impressed me about the PQ is how black the background was while showing the credits (in white). Usually lower quality PQ content have a more grey background.

I have a question: Are there any HDX movies to own as of yet?

I also have a suggestion: for a Movie Catalog Tab: HD Movies to Own and HDX Movies to Own.

I don't see any. I'm guessing the studios don't wont to open up no-DRM'ed HD files to the public. Personally, the attraction of a service like Vudu to me is the ability to rent. If you want to see a film again in a few months or a few years, just press a button and rent it again. Works out cheaper and you get to see a wider variety of movies with being cluttered with shelf after shelf of plastic discs.

Its been said no, mainly because of the puny HDD. HDX movies are 8-10gigs.

For starters, how about splitting "high-def" filter into "HD" and "HDX".

That's what I've always assumed, but I read somewhere that it also could be due to licensing. Another thing is the fact that at $20-25 a pop* we are pretty much at the Blu-Ray prices -- most new releases don't go any higher than $24-28 on Amazon.

                              * -- based on prices of Bourne trilogy: $20 for first two, $25 for Ultimatum when it was available.
