Burn After Reading - Choppy Video

We watched Burn After Reading last night and the video was extremely choppy in places. It seemed like it did it at the end of each "chapter." I know there are no chapters on Vudu films but it seemed like the choppy video happened where one would expect a chapter to end on a DVD.

I think this movie needs to be re-encoded.

What quality version did you watch? Also what do you mean by choppy - video artifacts or "hanging" video?

I watched the HD version. And by choppy I mean that the video and audio started and stopped repeatedly - to the point that you couldn't follow the dialogue. I guess stuttering may be a better descriptor.

I watched the HD version yesterday as well and didn't notice anything like that. It seems it isn't an encode issue. Maybe it was a network issue. What speed is your connection?

Hmm, network issues shouldn't cause stuttering of the audio/video - it would just result in "underrun" of the video, ie. having to wait to play back.

There is a known issue (discussed elsewhere, and which should be fixed very soon...) where playing Youtube videos in VUDU Labs has been seen to later cause stuttering of regular movies - rebooting fixes this.

Re: Burn After Reading - Choppy Video

We have 2 other threads about HD/HDX stuttering. I asked everybody who experienced this to answer 4 questions.

            Can you please do so?

            1. Did a reboot "fix" the probem?

            2. Were you watching VUDULABS content recently (since last box reboot)?

            3. Were you streaming?

            4. SD, HD or HDX?

            Thanks,
            Volker

Re: Burn After Reading - Choppy Video

I was definitely watching YouTube videos earlier in the day.

Tonight I watched Scarface (disturbing movie btw) in SD (only thing offered) and I didn't experience any issues.

I watched Burn After Reading in HD.

              I haven't tried a reboot b/c I haven't experienced any further problems.

              Yes - I was streaming.

Question - if I were to rent another title in HD (assuming that HD is the problem after watching YouTube vidoes) and I noticed the stuttering, would a reboot fix the issue or does the reboot need to be done BEFORE renting the next HD title?

              Thanks

And FYI - I have a connection of around 6mbs.

Re: Burn After Reading - Choppy Video

The problems are related to the actual playback and not the streaming. So rebooting after renting (and even the full download) should fix the problem.

                Hagen.

                  No

                  2. Were you watching VUDULABS content recently (since last box reboot)?
                  Yes

                  3. Were you streaming?
                  No

                  4. SD, HD or HDX?
                  HDX
After disconnecting from my wireless network, the movie and the demo for HDX played audio and video great.
