VUDU TO BE ACQUIRED BY FANDANGO

I just logged into my apple account. if fandango where to disappear with porting there movies into apple, i would loose about 200 titles. Yup this is scary. I'm watching a move on my apple tv now, and it looks amazing. I normally use my chromecast to watch vudu, but Im gonna switch now lol. I remember when vudu had the best quality.

They could keep the Vudu ecosystem (rebranded or not) and import FandangoNow accounts into Vudu's system using a separate login like they do for Vudu and Walmart accounts. I hope we can choose whether to merge accounts or not. I use different emails on Vudu and FandangoNow.

I have to admit that I'm extremely nervous about this news, too. I just signed up for a FandangoNow account about a month ago. I find the interface to be years behind the experience here at Vudu, and only about half of my movie collection is MA.

I think the thing that concerns me the most is the fact that I have about 1000 movies that are on FandangoNow, but are NOT Movies Anywhere. I'd like to think that those movies would just transfer over to FandangoNow as part of the merger, but the initial press release can't address anything that specific.

The company I've worked for has bought many companies over the years, and also been bought once or twice. A couple of those have been "the largest merger ever," and required government approval to be completed. The press release linked in this thread is almost verbatim the same release that goes out ahead of any merger that merits a press release. On one hand, it doesn't give us a reason to worry, but on the other hand there's nothing in it that gives us confidence beyond the next few weeks, maybe months.

Apprehension is normal, but at this point the only thing we know for sure is that FandangoNow intends to buy Vudu. Everything else in that press release just says, "Nothing has changed yet. We'll let you know when something changes."

I totally agree with everyone here who has said that, if we're lucky, FandangoNow will just slap their logo on the Vudu interface. It's happened before.

Heck, even crazier things have happened. When Bell South bought AT&T, they kept the name AT&T. It's improbable, but not impossible, that we could still be customers of "Vudu" this time next year, but everything behind the scenes is run by different people...

This legit has me worried. I have fandango account. I just signed up for it just to keep it as a back up. Most of my movies are ported there. But wow the app just doesn't work for me. It crashes frequently and is slow. I have yet to purchase one movie on there. I was comfortable with vudu because it was owned by wal mart. I figured wal mart aint going no where. Now were running out of lockers to keep our movies. Digital is making less sense now.

How is the quality/bitrate of your library with Apple as compared to Vudu? Before yesterday, my priority was always video quality, and I had always believed Vudu to be the best, but, now the goal is protection of my investment.

I'm not happy to say this as vudu has been my platform of choice and I have many many movies via vudu.... but Apple TV and even amazon best vudu in the video quality department at this time... but the vudu interface wins hand down. Apple TV is "ok" interface-wise and has a great way of laying out special features. amazon interface is horrendous. FandangoNow is the worst on all fronts. Hopefully the purchase of vudu keeps everything good about vudu and none of the FandangoNow.

I'm not a dude. I'm a 61 year old woman with my own mind. I don't and never pretend anything. I have a right to say what I feel is happening with my products. I don't think Fandango will be a great replacement for Vudu. I'm sorry if you can't handle that and I won't be silenced because of it. This is a forum where people express their truths. Apple has pretty much the best video quality for a while now. Movies Anywhere has good quality too.

I agree, the video quality on the Apple TV device using the AppleTV app is the best. I think the Vudu app on the ATV device is good as well, but that app is not very user friendly.

Technically fandangonow is acquiring vudu but in reality Comcast is the company and money behind it. And under Comcast is also NBC Universal studios.

Why are you saying that fandango will be a replacement ? This was not a hostile takeover. Fandango is near the bottom of retailers and vudu near the top why would Comcast replace an inferior service with a superior one? They bought vudu most likely to replace fandangonow. Not the other way around.

I hope you're right and Fandango is replaced. I meant Fandango being the new owner. My email from Vudu stated Vudu is being acquired by Fandango. I never mentioned anything about a hostile takeover. Good grief give it a rest. I'm finished with this. Good luck.

I agree with fandangonow support being subpar and sorry folks have lost movies. I have purchased very few movies on that platform and will never buy any more due to the issues I had with their support. That's also why I wrote I would be more concerned if fandangonow was my main platform.

If vudu is the platform Comcast believes the stronger it would make sense for them to keep the bulk of vudu staff and let go fandangonow staff. But even if that happens it is probably 2 years out.

Transition of films that fandango has to vudu would be simpler than in the past like when redbox or cinema now went under as fandangonow and vudu will be able to directly work with each other.

Notice that vudu announced your movies are safe. Fandangonow did not on their side. Again no need to panic. But there is just much more information to come and that is the key.

Vudu did a great job during the uv shutdown and migrated all licenses to their platform so no movies were lost forever. If they can handle the shutdown of uv they can handle this.

Since this is a vudu forum my post comes from the perspective of a primary vudu user. Again I am no fan of fandangonow and I don't believe that they even have a forum to vent which is terrible.
