The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Chromecast Ultra with 4k / HDR / Dolby Vision support !!

    So I just did some testing with the Chromecast. I do not seem to get Dolby Vision ( with Netflix ) even if I plug the Chromecast directly into my TV. The only way Netflix shows me Dolby Vision is if I use the Netflix app directly on the TV. It's only then that I see the DV icon in the top right corner.

    So based on this test, and based on VUDU's announcement that Chromecast will have DV with an upcoming firmware update, I dont think its my AVR.

    Looks like the Chromecast Ultra is the problem right now.

    I believe you will need to have a Dolby Atmos capable sound bar, a TV that can send Atmos content to the sound bar through the HDMI connection (ARC or audio only), and a HDX/UHD stream that has Atmos as an audio option.

    The TV can not send Atmos content through the optical connection. I would imagine the sound bar would have an audio only HDMI input or and HDMI input labeled ARC unless it can be used similarly to an AVR which passes video and audio content.

    That is better than what I am getting. I suspect it is because my AVR and my HDBaseT do not have the required HDMI2.0a inputs. However Dolby Vision should be able to pass through an HDMI 2.0 input which I currently have.

    Netflix has a mixture of HDR and DV content. Maybe that's what's going on. Waiting for google to update to see if I can use the CCU to view DV content. I can wait on the HDR-10 content until after I upgrade my receiver and HDBaseT next year.

    Hmmmm, something is not right in my setup then. I do not see "Dolby Vision" icon in the top right corner when using the Chromecast Ultra ( Netflix ). It says "HDR".

    Perhaps my AVR is not passing Dolby Vision correctly.....

    Dolby Atmos works through the Chromecast Ultra.

    According to Google, the Chromecast only supports Dolby Vision if the TV accepts 4k@60Hz 10 bit input, not 4K@30Hz. So you'd have to take that up with Google and/or LG...

    There will be a "Dolby vision" label at the top right and your picture setting will automatically switch to "Dolby Vision"

    The VUDU Chromecast app supports Dolby Vision.

    But whether is is passed from the Chomecast, through specific receivers or into a specific model TV is up to the manufacturers of those devices to properly support. Unfortunately there can be various compatibility issues related to 4K (@60Hz etc), Dolby Vision, and HDCP 2.2 that can prevent it.

    Of the TVs that we have tried it has been pretty inconsistent, unfortunately. We have been reporting issues found to manufacturers, but encourage you to do the same.

    It seems VUDU is totally silent right now about Chromecast Ultra support. This is disappointing since VUDU itself was mentioned in the Google release presentation for the Ultra.

    VUDU, can you tell us what's going on with your Chromecast Ultra support???

    So Casting Vudu on the Chromecast Ultra did not pass the Dolby Vision content to my LG TV. Is this something that VUDU will issue in a revised app or even in talks with Google and LG to actually make this happen?
