That smells more like fertilizer than cheese to me.

I'm too lazy to log all your posts how 1080p is just a format and not inidicitive of quality.

I'm not a Directv beta tester, but I'm reading between the lines of what he is saying to mean that Directv is increasing their bit-rate higher, just like VUDU did with HDX.

The movies you can rent from Directv are in 1080i, so I can't believe he is seeing a significant merely by providing the content 1080p.

        Correct.

These test movies are true 1080p/24, the current hd vod is 1080i. Leaps and bounds in quality, and the bucket list HDX looks the same as the D* 1080p bucket list.

Both are of quality to make me drop physical media, I just want a bigger push in getting the movies to us in HDX for rent.

The D* 1080p/24 movies took me right at about the same amount of time to download as HDX, so I believe its a very similar encode. Dish Network is also working on 1080p/24 VOD.

So just for the record, would you agree that VUDU HD quality is similar to current DirectTv HD??

I think that Vudu's HD movies are slightly below the D* 1080i VOD Ive bought. Keep in mind, I bought Vantage Point HD from D* and got Forbidden Kingdom HD from Vudu. I just saw things in dark scenes that caused some PQ issues that I did not see in the D* HD movie. Also keep in mind that the D* movie I watched was on the Directv on Demand, their PPV sat channels are compressed more and dont look as good to me. The Directv On Demand is an actual movie download, so the quality is better that the standard D* PPV channels.

D* 1080p vs Vudu HDX is a coin toss, both are great.

              I agree... Thanks.

I like to hammer Shultzy with Directv whenever I can. So guess where his sentiments lie.

Now you are sounding like Joe Biden or Barak H. Obama.

I never stated that 1080p was not indicative of quality. It absolutely is. A 1280x720 picture has 921,600 pixels. A 1960x1080 image has 2,116,800 pixels or over 2 times the number of pixels as the 720p image.

My statements have been related to how 1080i/30 and 1080p/60 are not all that much different. 1080i/30 has two sets of 1960 x 540 pixels (= 2 * 1,058,400 = 2,116,800) while as 1080p/60 image has 1 set of 1960x1080 pixels. The difference is really quite similar in many ways.

I have always stated that 1080p/24 is the best quality and is a significantly different bird than 1080p/60.

You are sounding more and more like a politician every day!

So you're saying he's actually answering pertinent questions, AND he knows what he's talking about, unlike certain other politicians?

I don't know. He sounded more like Biden did in the VP debate where he stated a rather large number of factual errors.....

                            Weird timing...

My Directv just updated itself a few minutes ago with a new SW Version. After the update it says it now supports 1080p Movies which are coming soon.

I just verified that my TV is displaying 1080/24p from my Directv box.

I didn't see anything about any pricing changes though. So until known otherwise, I'm assuming it's still $4.99/movie.

The current beta software we've been testing for a few months just went national. It also has a feature called softpad, it will automatically start recording 30 seconds before and will record 90 seconds over (when it can).

There is no 1080p VOD yet, they have just been trying to work the kinks out with the broadcom chip and tv compatibility. Both the 720p and 1080i lights will be lit when watching 1080p content.

You can try putting in channel 1080 to see if you can download the free test movies. I dont know if only the "cutting edge" software people have access to that or not.

We just received a U-verse update that also does "softpad". I have been beta testing 1080p for AT&T for about 2 months now. They are running into the same issue all VOD/distributors/channels are having. The content provided sucks. AT&T has a test channel that only a few subscribers can access and most of the content is older TV shows (Hogan's Heros, etc.)
