Re: Who Was MISLED from VUDU's Marketing?

VUDU users and readers - don't let the responses so far vear you away from the specific topic and questions???

Once again, we ALL know it's going to get better... what product/service/company that wants to stay in business doesn't!

#1 - The question was DID EVERYONE ELSE FEEL THEY WERE MISLED FROM WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO GET FROM YOUR READING AND RESEARCH THAT VUDU PUT OUT THERE FOR US???

#2 - IF YOU DO A SEARCH FOR 10 POPULAR MOVIES, HOW MANY ARE AVAIL ON VUDU TO WATCH??? (only because their selling points were very misleading)

...don't get me wrong, if it was stated much differently, like generic staments such as "There are over 5000 movies avail to watch" and key terms LEFT OUT such as "We have signed almost every movie studio" so you WILL HAVE ACCESS to every movie they made, and "No more need to go to the video store" just to find the movie you wanted to see isn't available.

I know it's a fine line between sales and making sure the customer is buying what they think they are buying, and if I had to bet, I'd bet that the higher-up's are debating right now from the initial release feedback on what may need to be changed if any on this matter. But as for now, don't be scared to write if you feel the same way?

Look, You asked the question but you sure as heck can't tell people what criteria they can base their answer on. I will answer YOUR question using whatever criteria I want to. My answer is, no, I was not misled. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the product and the initial state of the movie selection.

The only really interesting question is whether people who bought the product based on the marketing are disappointed, period. Trying to point out specific wording that you don't like in a marketing blurb that others obviously didn't find to have the same meaning as you makes no sense to me.

I don't even think I ever saw a claim that you would have access to every movie from the studios they have agreements with . They claim to have agreements with a lot of studios, and they do. The claim about not needing to go to the video store is true for many, myself included. You asked for generic terms. How about the word "need". You certainly never "need" to go to the video store in the first place. It is always a choice. Now you have more times when you can choose not to go. For many, that means they may never need to go again. The marketing didn't apply specifically to you and in totality. It is general by nature. Most reasonable people see things like that. That's why we throw away junk mail and turn off infomercials.

Why do you feel so compelled to convince people they aren't happy when, looking at the survey and seeing the responses here, they generally are? It sounds like you are just trying to make trouble and offer nothing of value on this thread.

It sounds like I'm reading it wrong though.

OMG, I cannot believe your attitude! Someone gives you (well, if you even own a Vudu), two free movies in HD and you complain about syntax in the announcement! We have told you guys time and time again, that the HD movies are in DOLBY DIGITAL!

          I repeat again:

If you feel misled and Vudu isn't meeting your needs, send your box back within the first 30 days. If you are past that point, you have no right to complain. If you have decided to keep the box, you can't complain you have been "misled" and lied to and yet you keep the box willingly. You may not like the current state of things. You may even feel that the marketing campaign was not 100% accurate, but once you cross that 30 day window, you have decided that the product is worth the purchase regardless of the marketing that went into it. To keep the product and still complain about the marketing like you are is really disingenuous and is nothing more than trying to stir up a fight on the forums.

You have insulted the moderators for their "poor" job - what should we do? Are we not entitled to an opinion? Of course we are. The polls have overwhelmingly shown that most Vudu customers are happy with the database. FYI, this moderator, voted the database a THREE. So I didn't give it a four and certainly not a five (no one has).

          The FACTS are this:

          - Vudu has agreements with every major studio - name one studio who's movies are not on Vudu.
          - Vudu has approximately 5000 movies in the library with more being added all the tiem
          - Vudu allows for instant viewing of movies

That's effectively the ad campaign - what is not accurate about this?

You've refused to answer our rebuttals to your point and instead you just keep making your point now for the third time. Are you open to having a discussion or do you just want to see your writings on the net?

if you feel Vudu has misled you and is not a product worth the cost to you, then PLEASE return it. If you have passed the 30 day window - shame on you. But then PLEASE sell your Vudu on e-Bay. I'm sure you could get $350 for it quite easily...

This is my first experience on a forum but the insults and offensive responses toward people who are just expressing their opinions is very disheartening to say the least. That is all I have to contribute. I will remain a passive observer and look forward to what the company has to offer for the future.

Sorry, maybe I'm a little too harsh, but Bqmeister has been a major complainer and picks about things with the Vudu. I shouldn't insult in public like that. I just got frosted when Vudu gives out two free movies and yet he complains about syntax.

I'm going to go moderate myself and edit my post...Thank you for the rebuke...

OK - I moderated myself and edited my original text and the text in my quote in your post...

Re: Who Was MISLED from VUDU's Marketing?

I was mislead by the Vudu advertising and I want a satisfaction poll where only the paying customers can vote. Based on the feedback on this forum I want to know who the 22 people are that gave the movie collection 4 stars and if they love it so much where are they!! I wasn't going to even get involved in this thread because I have already stated my opinion in previous threads and was remaining silent and giving Vudu a chance. I do like the vudu and it is improving but this constant bashing of paying customers when they give a legitimate gripe about what was advertised and what they received is getting frustrating. That last post by NAD9 was just over the top. No where did Vudu advertise that most of the popular movies were purchase only. To constantly hammer down on people when they are suprised by that fact after they purchased the box is unacceptable. People do want new movies. Maybe you don't NAD9. But I do. And I was miss lead.

                  Ken,

I have stated multiple times that I don't like the current situation. I honestly rated the database a three. If I was nothing but a shill, I would have given it a 4 or even a 5. I'm not beating down people who disagree. What I am standing up against is the idea that simply because the marketing of a product didn't meat your expectation does not mean that you were misled. It does not mean Vudu lied. They don't need to disclose their purchase/rental terms in their advertising...what company does that?

I am beating down the constant over and over and over restatement of the situation. No one has ever stated that those who feel the database lacking are wrong. WE AGREE WITH YOU. But some people are more satisfied than others.

I also, don't mind if a new user raises an objection, but Paularino is not new. He's been on this forum for longer than most people.

So, please, we've been reasonable, but this thread post was nothing but a bait job trying to do what's happening here -> He's trying to get us to fight about nothing when we actually agree with each other 100%.

Let me state my personal positions for the record:

                  - EVERY MOVIE on Vudu should be available for rental AND for purchase. There should be NO rent only and NO purchase only.

                  - EVERY MOVIE should be available on Vudu on the day the movie is released.

                  Period!

Please, don't tell me that I don't feel the same way as the rest of you. I just don't feel that the marketing is misleading.

Re: Who Was MISLED from VUDU's Marketing?

This thing is getting out of control. It has gone way beyond just having paying customers voice their opinions. This thread is attempting to convince people that they should be unhappy even if they are not. I personally did not like that the only "acceptable way" to answer the question was given to me. That was uncalled for. If you want to share your opinions, fine. Let others that disagree with you do so too.

We have 100% agreement on the things we all want. The basis of this discussion is whether Vudu used intentionally deceptive marketing practices to "trick" people into buying the box, or if the people who are disappointed should take more responsibility for making their own decisions and using common sense when reading marketing information and being early adopters of new technology.

There is absolutely no way to come to an agreement here, so why even bother. Anyone who is not happy with the box, send it back. That will send your message to Vudu loud and clear. Anybody who is happy and is patiently looking forward to what the future holds, continue to do so.

Re: Who Was MISLED from VUDU's Marketing? PART 2

Jumping into the hornets nest as a relatively new user (month or so) who has been away from the boards for a few weeks....)

                        1) Just an observation as I have seen many threads on other boards over the years where people get upset when management comes along and limits discussion on boards. Moderators have every right to close a thread, or delete it, on a privately owned site (which most websites are). Freedom of speach, etc. do not apply. Vudu mods can do whatever they like (lock, delete threads, etc.).

                        2) I didn't read the whole of the other thread but do agree with whoever said if you felt you were misled and are unhappy with the vudu, return it within 30 days. That is actually quite an awesome policy, if you ask me.

                        3) I have to admit I was disappointed there are not more movies to rent that I like (modern popular movies) but made the choice that what is there is still nice to have access to, and if it improves it will just be that much better.

                        4) I encourage Vudu and its supporters to not blame the movie studios for lack of movies. Apple went out and made sure music was available for the iPod before releasing it, ,many other's prior to that and since failed because they did not ensure they had content and blamed the big bad music companies for being too controlling. Yes, they are. But for a hardware or delivery service to survive, they have to woo the big bad content owners to provide the content, not rely on customers. Apple these days has a lot more clout than Vudu, but back then they were not exactly a powerhouse computing company. Unrelated, but I hope Amazon learned this as well with the Kindle (that content needs to be there or it will fail) because I have one of those coming too. :-)

                        5) Lastly, thanks Vudu! I love my box, will truly enjoy the two free Bourne movies (WOW! what a nice surprise!!!). Keep chugging along!
