    24 Hour Rental Period

I rented a movie Wed. and had to stop it about 1/2 way thru. I qued it up on Thurs. when I got home and started watching, before getting to the end, the movie shut off.

If you start watching again within the 24 hr. period it should at least let you finish.

Thank you for speaking up. Your feedback will be added to the other ammunition that the Vudu content team uses to persuade the studios to come into the 21st century. I agree with you that it would really be better if this could be delivered. This request has been raised several times, and I think it would not be asking too much of the studios to at least let you finish the show you've started watching.

      question???

if you do start watching something and need to shut it off halfway through......when you go to watch the rest of it, does vudu ask if you want to watch from the beggining or from the place where it left off???

If you stop watching a movie in the middle the movie status will then be "In Progress". When you return to viewing it should pick up right where you left off.

Like Paul said, the Vudu remembers where you were watching and resumes playback. You can use the scroll wheel to navigate at that point.

We have asked for a "play from beginning" shortcut, and I think it might show up beind that MORE button on your remote in the future.

For now, you can scroll to the end, and once it won't let you fast forward any more, let it play out the last few seconds. After the credits are completely over, it will go back to the "movie details" page, with the actors, etc. After that it will play from the beginning if you choose "Watch Now" again. I've made a habit of flipping to the end when I finish watching a movie or TV episode, so that if we play it again, it will start from the beginning.

                Re: 24 Hour Rental Period

The 24 hours from start/30 days from purchase limitations are the same ones that Apple is rumored to implement on their rentals. My circle of friends are professionals with hectic schedules and they very often can't watch a movie in one sitting (even I do that sometimes), so it's a major issue for us.

There was another thread on this topic and someone recommended this restriction instead: limit the movie to one viewing and, after a prolonged pause, only allow a person to rewind 10 minutes (to remember where he/she left off).

One good thing that I found out today is that if you do watch a rental but don't finish it, even if you come back weeks later it starts back up where you left off if you re-rent it. At least it doesn't make you wait for the download to that point again.

Actually, depending on how long ago it was, it might. Rentals stay on your drive and become part of what you "serve" to others. But eventually the oldest ones do move off (due to room, etc) and then you'd need to re-download. I've seen it happen to me.

Don't know if this is a fluke or intentional but my rental of an old old movie gave me 48 hrs rental period....does that mean all rentals are now extended to 48 hrs or just some?

Independent studios have 48 hour periods (most do). Most of those older movies are provided by some of the indie outlet.

This was the first successful renegotiation of terms that Vudu has had. It was announced back in November, I believe.

48 Hours on all rentals would be great. Or maybe the ability to hold on to if until you watch it. Hope this happens in the future.

30 hours would be good. That way you could start one evening and have time to finish the next evening. I wish all the download services would switch to a 30 hour rental period. FIOS, Comcast, Xbox Live, and AppleTV all have the same 24 hour rental period.

I'm not sure what you mean. On movies I rented, I had the option to "hold on to it" for 30 days, and start the countdown when I start watching it (from that point, I need to finish it within 24-48h (depends on the studio)). Is this different from what you're asking?
