Will they take HD-DVD's?

Have several HD-DVD's that I would like converted but don't want to waste my time going down there if they won't take them. Anyone tried?

I haven't found anywhere that says a definite no, but I doubt it. I don't think there is any reason they couldn't, but I don' think they planned it. If you look at D2D page, it specifically says DVD and Blu-ray for prices at top, and it says Blu-ray or nothing (for DVD) next to each title when you search its list. I imagine if they did it would be mentioned in those locations.

You don't have any other discs that you could convert while you're there? I seriously doubt most of the staff would notice or know the difference.

I do but wanted to do the HD-DVD's first however I might just lump them together.

HD DVDs are technically DVDs. But then it would be $5 to convert. I would convert a few at $5, but I would convert alot more at $2. I plan on trying a couple of HD DVDs this weekend.

Let us know how it goes? I disagree with your statement about HD DVDs being technically DVDs because they are closer to blu-rays in my opinion 'cause they're both HD and not SD.

Back from Walmart. Brought in 9 HD-DVD's and 5 DVD's and printed off two separate lists for each. I brought them in the cases and it set off the alarm on the way in and out strangely. Handed them to the guy who was familiar with the program. He took them and I could tell he was confused by the HD-DVD's so he was entering stuff in the computer and called me over. First of all he said my lists didn't match my queue online and I told him I printed the list then changed it. He said he then entered the UPC of one of the HD-DVD's (The Rundown) and it came up but it said it was $5 instead of $2 for HD conversion. He said he noticed it was HD but that the computer treated it like DVD so it must not be up to Blu-ray standards or something. I assured him that they were very similar to Blu-ray but he didn't want to budge on it so I told him to do the DVD's but wait on the HD-DVD's. He said they don't always check the UPC but will if they are not sure. I wonder if I brought them in with my queue matching what I bring and didn't put them in the cases if I would have more luck at getting them for $2. Regardless the computer treats them like DVD's. If anyone else tries it you might want to not bring the cases and make sure you enter the Blu-ray equivalents in your queue.

I'd rather do without the digital copy than pay $5 to convert an HD-DVD. That's ridiculous.

A BD has more in common with a CD than a DVD. Even though BDs' and HD DVDs are HD, the structure of a BD is not like a DVD.

At least it does come up for the HD DVDs, although at $5 I will only convert a few titles. I certainly don't plan on bringing the case in with me, so I guess you never know. Maybe it will only be $2.

HD-DVDs are High Definition, are they not? The HD-DVDs I own all indicate 1080p resolution... I understand the information and prices reference DVD and Blu-ray prices, but the advertising propaganda also indicates "Standard Definition" and "High Definition." Therefore, if you are adding an HD-DVD, the High Def price should apply. So, if this Disc-to-Digital program were designed for a 1-to-1 exchange like they advertise, the HD digital copy would apply. Any official comment from Walmart/Vudu/UltraViolet?

My local Walmart took my few HD-DVD discs and treated them as HD. If there was a Blu-Ray equivalent in the list, then he used the Blu-Ray link, otherwise he used the DVD. Of course if there is no HD edition for purchase then I don't want it. Why would I want to downgrade from BluRay or HD-DVD to SD? He said HD is HD to him. And he was the department manager.

They are obsolete and you are lucky they process them at all.

I have already replaced most of my HD-DVDs with Blu-Rays. I only owned about ten.

I took one HD-DVD that isn't available in Blu-Ray. They treated it like a SD and I payed $5 for the HDX. I was very happy they took it as I did't expect them to honor an obsolete format.

I was able to convert 4 HD-DVDs today for the $2 price. Guy at Wally only checked my printed list against the number of boxes. No scanning at all was done. Mine also set off the alarms on entry and leaving but nobody bothered me. Like most situations, it probably depends on the person and not the philosophy. having a list and acting like you know more about the process than they seem to probably helps.

in the end, the guy stamped the insert of my boxes rather than the disks themselves. The is not putting a whole lot of effort into security on their end.

I was hoping to try this out this past saturday but I had to work. Hoepfull I can get there this Saturday to try and convert some of my Hd DVds.
