Fandango Forum Guidelines

The Fandango are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango experience. Here, Fandango customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango Streaming and Fandango Streaming related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Although the primary purpose of these forums is to help Fandango customers with questions and/or problems with their Fandango Streaming service, there are also off-topic areas available within the Fandango Forums for users to chat with like-minded people, subject to the limitations below.

Please post all comments in English. When posting a comment in the Fandango Forums, please conduct yourself in a respectful and civil manner. While we respect that you may feel strongly about an issue, please leave room for discussion.

Fandango reserves the right to refrain from posting and/or to remove user comments, including comments that contain any of the following:

1. Obscenities, defamatory language, discriminatory language, or other language not suitable for a public forum
2. Email addresses, phone numbers, links to websites, physical addresses or other forms of contact information
3. "Spam" content, references to other products, advertisements, or other offers
4. Spiteful or inflammatory comments about other users or their comments
5. Comments that may potentially violate the DMCA or any other applicable laws
6. Comments that discuss ways to manipulate Fandango at Home products/services, including, but not limited to, reverse engineering, video extraction, and file conversion.

Additionally, please keep in mind that although Fandango retains the right to monitor, edit, and/or remove posts within Fandango Forums, it does not necessarily review every comment. Terms of Use - User Comments, Feedback, Reviews, Submissions

For all reviews, comments, feedback, postcards, suggestions, ideas, and other submissions disclosed, submitted or offered to Fandango, on or through this Site, by e-mail or telephone, or otherwise disclosed, submitted or offered in connection you use of this Site (collectively, the "Comments") you grant Fandango a royalty-free, irrevocable, transferable right and license to use the Comments however Fandango desires, including, without limitation, to copy, modify, delete in its entirety, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from and/or sell and /or distribute such Comments and/or incorporate such Comments into any form, medium or technology throughout the world.

disc to digital... I don't get it.. are the discs unique?

    when anyone goes to walmart do you actually bring your discs in store? When I went there for the first time I brought 5 movies and the guy said I'm doing nothing with those and that he just wanted my printout from online.... Is anyone else getting this answer from asscociates and has anybody got them stamped? just checking cause this could be a good thing....Hmmmm

    When a DVD disc is read by the software, it calculates an ID based on some files on the disc. If you have disc decryption software running and enabled when you insert a disc, or you are mounting a backup ISO or insert a burned copy, you'll actually get a different ID, because the contents of the disc is actually different than the original, unaltered disc. Because of this, a backup copy of any kind could be unrecognized, or recognized as a totally different movie.

    alot of that has to do with the fact the stamper used to id'd the discs has dried out and either the stores dont reorder or their orders are not being fulfilled.

    its for the better as now no longer do I/you dont have to fight with/ yell at "edna" or "walter" because they try to stamp the read side of the disc as not to ruin the nice art work.

    Actually, I did misread your post because I was trying to read and talk on the phone at the same time (which is never a good idea). I thought you asked a question "will discs ever be stamped or marked". Sorry.

    No. There is no unique identifier or serial number encoded on the disc, only a code that indicates what the movie is.

    Most Walmarts do not even stamp your discs. I have done about 300 disks and none have been stamped.

    There really is no point to it anyway.

    With "D2D Home" from CinemanNow and coming from VUDU allowing you to add movies to your UV Locker from your PC at home, or work, etc. the disc will never be stamped or marked.

    I think in a world with the reality of torrents, broken drm, writable discs and amazon/ebay most studios are realizing that it's really a moot point. If they give people a legal way to convert their media at competitive cost, that offers convenience, most people will choose the legal option.

    That, or maybe for them this is just another planned obsolescence (I have trust issues).

    Can be seen as a loss if this keeps friend from buying disc and then D2Ding. But that assumes that they would buy it anyway from a retailer. Better a $2-$5 payment from all the friends your lend your disc to (and you) than the friends going to pirate it. Or if the friends get it used from eBay, Amazon, MovieStop, etc., the studios get nothing for that too. I think studios have accepted this as a way to go to get more people using D2D and therefore more people using Ultraviolet which should help them in the long run.

    If the discs aren't stamped.. is there some other unique ID on the disc it checks? Why would the studios allow this? Could it be they will be getting new revenue everytime they are converted even if they are 'borrowed' from a friend?
