I'm not an iTunes user, so I'm curious how this will impact their movie purchasing decisions. Without bothering to look it up, it's probably safe to assume that all of these titles are available for purchase in iTunes.

Are they skipping discs and driving up EST numbers for iTunes?
Are they buying discs, and using the UV-related apps?
      Are they simply foregoing purchases?

The hard core ones would be #1. The nameless masses who run Android on their cell phones (86% of the global cell phone footprint), will go with #2 since that is by-in-large what is being presented to them as the defacto solution now a days.

Disney vacillating on their selection of providers is a real disappointment to watch be so badly mis-managed.

Re: The Demise of iTunes/Apple in the Digital Copy Market:

When I compared the number of UV accounts to the number of iTunes accounts earlier in this thread, I now believe my conclusion was the wrong way to look at it. This morning I have re-evaluated my conclusion. The 400 million accounts that I was using was total users worldwide. Comparing those numbers would be like comparing apples to oranges. I should have compared the number of accounts in the U.S. So, I found this report from NPD claiming the number was 51 million US users out of 200 million total. That's 1 out of 4. That was two years ago, and the total is now over 575 million, so we can do the math and conclude there are about 140 million US iTunes users. That sounds about right. The report said that 19% had purchased a video. So that would be about 28 million people who have purchased a video from iTunes in the US. So if we compare 28 million to UV's 15 million accounts, there's not that much different. And I know UV is continuing to grow at a rapid pace, so I think maybe UV will be competitive with iTunes store soon.

            Thank you.

I believe you will concede this to be an educated guess. I would agree that you have formulated the best possible estimate though.

To further lower the number, of the ones in the US who are buying/renting movies, how many of those are doing so onto a television instead of an iOS mobile device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad).

With the requirement to purchase an AppleTV set-top-box, I have to imagine the numbers are a pretty small percentage and the iTunes users are by-in-large buying content for their mobile devices.

Yes, it's just my edumucated guess, but I think it's a lot closer than what I was thinking before. I also like the fact that it's more optimistic.

You can add Vertical Entertainment to your chart.

                www.vert-ent.com

Rushlights has a vudu code with it. Website is pretty barebone.

bond markets are reacting to "iTunes is Apple's core. It binds the company's products and it's earning power. If it hurts, so will the company" risk.

Apple Corp is now feeling very real financial pressure from the loss of traction.

No. The movies they distribute themselves are iTunes only and not even re-downloadable in iTunes purchase history.

From what I can tell, the latest Universal Release is only UV. May be the same for other releases, but I can't tell from internet search. I would have to go to Wal-Mart to look at back of packaging. Great news if true!

Just got back from Wal-Mart. The latest releases from Universal do have iTunes Digital Copies, but the packaging for the last 3 Lionsgate films do not inidicate iTunes copies are included. This is a change from before.

The Girl Most Wanted, and Much Ado About Nothing appear to be UltraViolet Only.

Red from Universal comes out next week, so we will have to see if that release changes anything.

I have the Much Ado blu ray and can confirm it's UV only.

Interesting. The movieredeem.com website still lists iTunes as a vendor to choose from.

Maybe it's for the old codes? If you click on it it just leads to a hyperlink that opens iTunes. The sheet from much ado only lists uv and the code does not work in iTunes. I read the fine print. No Itunes mentioned at all. Strickly UV.
