Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     I guess the point you are making is eluding me.

    I have the PLEX app on two Roku's in my home and run the PLEX server app on a laptop I keep in my wife's walk-in closet. There is no doubt that it is one of the more useful apps available for use on a Roku. It makes it the same as an AppleTV set top box in conjunction with iTunes (which I also have set up in my home).

    I believe you are suggesting that the popularity of these apps on Roku means that in home streaming is alive a well as a method for media playback. If so, I would agree 100%.

    However, with the rising popularity of streaming from the cloud the consumer market is clearly shifting away from this model of having digital files on a server in your home LAN serving up media files for playback on a client app.

    Much easier is just pressing the "play" button and letting a streaming provider do that for you. Steaming takes zero hdd space and zero administration time.

    Here's some more data: Plex is an application that facilitates streaming media from a home network to a TV. Plex is one of the top 10 apps on the roku. The Plex website is in the top 4,000 trafficked websites. The plex app has been downloaded 100,000 + times on the google play store.

    XBMC, another app that does the same thing, is also in the top 4500 web sites in the US. Its app has been downloaded more than 1 million times on google play. If you figure that half the population uses IOS, that's 2 million total mobile users.

    This is to say, that there are millions of people that stream local media across their home networks. And I bet not many of them are currently using UltraViolet.

    Roku also has a channel for yoga basket weaving chants. Doesn't mean America is doing yoga chanting while basket weaving every night now.

    Think the demand for home network video streaming is going down? Think again. It must be increasing, as Roku finally added a DLNA capable channel. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I will give it a go tomorrow.

    Good read that justified my previous statement...until I get a larger screen I am out of the "optimal" viewing range for my screen and will see little to no benefit to HDX downloads.

    I don't know. Rango on my forty is pretty damn crisp. Ice Age 1-4, Shrek 1-4, many others.

    I get a lobotomy anytime I press play on those and typically start drooling after about 3-4 minutes.

    I loose sensation on the left half of my body after ten and then my eyes start to water from the strain and speech becomes difficult.

    For Android users, the ability to load up SD cards with movies on the computer and then swap in any card to watch the stored files, instead of going through the Vudu download process (with its storage andlogin restrictions), will be nice. Unfortunately for iOS users, we are pretty much stuck with the built-in storage, which may be a hassle to use unless the CFF can be imported to iTunes (not holding my breath), or you use a file explorer app. The playability of a CFF file stored on my NAS on my iPad will be one of my first tests when it is released.

    I do hope we get a choice of download quality (SD/HD/HDX). If HD has 5.1 surround and 720p, it will probably be my go-to until I get a larger TV (8ft viewing of a 40in TV makes 1080p almost worthless); being able to transfer ten of those 2GB HD files onto a device only capable of 1024x768 makes a lot more sense than three 8GB HDX ones, without redundantly storing SD for the portables.

    I'm a little surprised as well. I think the only CFF related news we've gotten so far this week was the stuff about the DivX DRM being approved for downloads.

    I suspect the importance might possibly increase due more and more ISPs implementing bandwidth caps.

    My ISP has not yet implemented a cap, but it is my understanding that they are testing it in other regions.
