So forgive my asking, but then what's the point of the 5 sub-accounts that you're entitled to via UV. If only two people can link to Vudu what do the other four do?

Do they just watch through Flixter? Cinemanow? Is it meant to force users to use all available services?

Good question, but its been posed many times before with no answer. So I would just say, yes, yes, possibly.

What, you think after 1 1/2 years since deployment that UV would be out of beta, and have a coherent explanation of how the 6-account sharing system works?

A month or so ago, I helped a friend move. I saw she had a few movies with UV stickers, so I asked her if she set it up and used it, and that it would let her share her movies with her family. She said she had tried with Harry Potter, but that she became confused with Flixster, and gave up. I set her up on Vudu, and told her to create UV/Vudu accounts for her parents and her sister, so that they could share movies.

She was pretty excited by this, and even took a stack of movies that week to WalMart for conversion. She told me that her sister signed up easily, but that her parents were having problems "linking". I chalked it up to user error, until I read about (and tested for myself) the recent problems with permanently linking more than 2 accounts.

It made me feel awful. The system no longer works for them the way it worked for me. So I'm out of the UV proselytizing business, until this all gets straightened out (hopefully).

Dan, - Since there is so much confusion on this issue why wouldn't Vudu/Walmart escalate this to UV on behalf of their customers? Individuals that have contacted UV directly are told many different things including it is a Vudu limitation or to re-link account etc. Individual inquires to UV are getting no traction and frustrating your customers.

Having dealt with movie studios/record labels in a previous life I know how frustrating they can be. But one thing is true, if anyone carries clout with them it is the distribution power of Walmart.

As one of your customers that goes all the way back to the days of the $399 Vudu box... I would appreciate a more active role in resolving this for us.

          Thanks...

I agree completely. I converted DVDs and Blu-rays to HDX based solely on the AVS Vudu HDX screenshot comparisons to blu-ray and the ability to share my collection across 6 friends and family members. Would someone please point me to where in the Vudu or UV user agreements it states that only 2 Vudu accounts can be linked to UV?

Otherwise, I think that some of us have damages.

Re: Error linking Vudu to UV account

This just keeps getting worse and worse.

Now I can't even get TWO accounts to link together. I have to keep switching between accounts to watch movies and the damn PS3 doesn't even let me log out.

Vudu, you're very QUICKLY becoming more trouble than you're worth. Fix the damn problems already.

I just experienced this yesterday with my second sub-account. I am also suspicious that it is an UltraViolet issue since attempts to link the sub-account with Flixster also failed. I opened a ticket with UltraViolet, but they came back and advised me that they are forwarding the issue to Flixster and closing the ticket & that I should be hearing from Flixster.

I did advise them in my original trouble ticket that linking failed for both Flixster and Vudu, but they did not mention Vudu in their response to me.

I have made some progress with help from Flixster. They advised me to grant my sub-member Full permissions and have him try linking again. It did indeed work. I had him logout and then I reset his permissions back to Standard & had him log back in and this worked as well.

I did write back to tell Flixster that it was only a partial success, though. When he logs into his Flixster account, he only see just under half of the movies in my collection.

I also had him retry the Vudu linking while he was a Full member, but it still fails.

This problem still exists for me. How does anyone with a family manage their UV and linking to each individual Vudu accounts if this limitation exists?

Re: Error linking Vudu to UV account

So, six month since this was reported with no clear resolution. Great job on both UVVU or Vudu's side. As with many other people on here, I have a UV account with two subaccounts for a total of 3 accounts in my household. I only recently added the third account, so had not experienced this problem, but now, I am! The third account will not permanently link to vudu (although it does temporarily!) with the same error on vudu's side that only 2 accounts can be linked to a service at a time! Really? They why are all three permanently successfully linked to flixster? Including this latest account that I added. Yes, all three are linked to flixster without problem, yet only two can link to vudu, and the third one will not permanently link. Seems to me that if other retailers like flixster are able to accommodate this, vudu should as well. If it were a set rule bu UVVU, then it should not have been possible to link all three to flixster. I like(d) vudu until now, but it seems like you (vudu) are trying really hard to make your customers go to other vendors since you do not allow linking more than two accounts. Particularly, since there has been no real response from vudu on this problem or work towards a resolution, I guess I will have to direct my household to use flixster. A resolution on vudu's side would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Error linking Vudu to UV account

I'm experiencing this problem as I just linked with another account and I'm the third account. The only way to make the link is to uncheck the box that creates a two way link between uv and vudu. Not only does this create a link that only lasts a few hours, to make things worse any additions to vudu past the merge date, do NOT show up on the UV account. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this part of the problem as it defeats the purpose of merging which is for all members to be able to share titles with one another while adding to the library along the way.

Re: Error linking Vudu to UV account

I would also like to see a resolution or just at least a valid response to this issue. I never have seen a valid response from Vudu and always gotten the run around from UV support. I have a total of 5 on my family account with 2 that are unable to permanently link. So those 2 members never purchase or add anything through Vudu since they really can't see their content they were to purchase unless they go and manually link first. So it hasn't been worth it to them. So Vudu is really loosing out here from extra purchases. If this is a rule set by Vudu only, hopefully other viable retailers in addition to Flixster come along so that they can link their accounts. Vudu is still the best overall service, except for this really aggravating issue.

Re: Error linking Vudu to UV account

BTW, researching this issue on uvvu.com it states:
                            ------------------
Q: My UltraViolet retailer or UltraViolet streaming provider's web site will not allow me to link to my UltraViolet account.

R: UltraViolet services are not obligated to provide linking capability. Please contact your service provider's customer support for assistance.
                            ------------------

So it seems to me the issue is with the "service provider" (i.e. vudu), particularly, since i have successfully been able to permanently link the thrid household member to other providers. As someone else said, other than this problem, vudu has been a great retailer and I would like to stick with it, and get my household members to use it, but as it is right now (and at least for the last half year) we can't. So vudu Customer Support, help! Thanks.

Re: Error linking Vudu to UV account

                              ...so here is the idea.

Two electronic savvy metro's hook up and the guy proposes to the girl. They say their vows, do the deed, and move to the `burbs.

In the new crib, they both have UV accounts stemming from their single lives but only one flat screen in the family room.

Linking accounts was meant to solve this type of problem. I think you are trying to make it something else.

IMHO, Vudu is still the gold standard for iVoD.

iTunes is trying to retro-fit their circa 2005 systems which were designed as a trendy way to sell MP4 files into an iVoD retailer.

Amazon has a good solid business plan for this market space, but lacks the single focus of the good folks at Vudu.

To throw the baby out with the bath water because some obscure linking feature does not work in some obscure method I think is missing the point of being able to have your entire video library available via remote access. This has been the holy grail of in-home entertainment for I do not know how many years and it is finally here.

You may abandon Vudu if you wish. I am an extremely happy customer.

Well, I love to agree with you, Walt, but this is not what most people are thinking with a 'Family' of UV users (and I think you'd agree, 4 wives, to fill out the sub-user quota, is 3-4 to many). I'd wager that the situation you mention would be best served by simply merging the UV accounts (which, right now, would add all UV content to the primary accounts' Vudu).

The problem arises when you add in a couple of kids of different ages with their own TV/device and you want to segregate their content. Even more so, the extended family, including Parents, Siblings, In-laws and the like, which is waht I want to do, but with a limit of two Vudu users linked to the same UV 'family' some would be stuck with the sub-standard CinemaNow or Flixster services. In reality, until there is a way to selectively distribute movies to the sub-users I will not add my Parents to the mix since much of my collection would be unappealing to them (and I'd hate for them to think 'this looks like a good movie' only to be disappointed by the content), likewise I don't want to add my Brother, as he has little ones, and I have no desire to have Thomas the Tank show up in my Vudu list.

This whole thing is like having a car that seats 5 people, but some bogus restriction limiting you to carrying one passenger.
