Re: Direct-to-Digital list and other utilities (Error Tracker, Redemption Log)
Would you automatically update all movies purchased with the previously wrong identification to this new crowd-sourced title? (I don't know if I'd want that applied universally.) Do they have to be verified internally to prevent a potentially disastrous PR issue when a bunch of droogs get together and change Ice Age 4 to whatever the most disturbing/violent/sexual movie on vudu is. (I couldn't think of a good flick to insert here...there's got to be one that rises above/below the rest.) Or are the numbers great enough that manually verifying each change is not feasible without access to physical discs? Are the notifications going to actionable? Then there's conflict management for the new titles. I'm sure vudu has a plan for all of this, I'd think it's resources that are holding them back right now.
I'd really, really, really like to know their business decisions and processes for their entire Disc to Digital program. Did they get one subset of data from Gracenote and are currently building up their own set...that's a thousand fold better than what we started with (and are probably still using), but are working out the long term plan? I think I understand why they can't release this info or may not have the resources to at the moment.
The key term for me in each of these is resources....which I know of absolutely nothing specific to vudu. I know their API is solid and extensive from messing around with it. Their infrastructure has been stable for the several(?) years I've been using it from way back on my Boxee to Xbox/PS3 to mobile devices. Every time I've had issues, I've believed it was on my ISP's end. But I don't see a ton of constant change to the services. Their game console apps are awesome. Their mobile apps are capable, but to be honest, are a few steps down from the shine and polish of Netflix/Amazon Video/Plex/HBOGo/WatchESPN...which is the crowd they belong in. The Disc to Digital program seems to behave exactly how it did when the beta was first released. I know new titles are added all the time...but I have no clue if discs with previous errors ever get corrected other than the handful I've seen posted here or there in posts on this forum. Or even if there's an internal revolution building where all of these titles are going to work like they are supposed to. Without any details though, I think my imagination is running rampant with finding out what's behind the curtain...
