The topic concerning MGM is if their historical library of titles will be sold off to a studio (Sony and Disney have both been mentioned), or if they will be able to ever join DECE and release their historical titles to the D2D program. However, neither of those are topics for this thread, so I left them off the table.
Thanks for the answer, though. I was wondering the same as I am about to purchase Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film Collection on Blu-ray. It's a Lightning Deal on Amazon now for $109. I did check Vudu's "Disc to Digital" page first though, and none of the 22 (!) titles appear to be eligible currently for conversion.

They aren't and probably won't be for a while. No one really knows what is going on with MGM titles. I'm hoping they get then on the d2d wagon so I can convert mine. Same goes for Disney.

yeah, the bond brand missing from UV is a bit of a sticking point. MGM holds the license for it though.

On a bit of historical info, it is thought the price tag associated with the Quantum of Solice production is what sunk MGM. It cost over $200 million, and ended up loosing money.

Re: The Demise of iTunes/Apple in the Digital Copy Market:

more bad news for the Apple devotees.

"Google's Android software continues to steamroll the competition in smartphones, posing bigger problems for companies like Apple and BlackBerry.

New data Wednesday from research firm IDC found that Apple's share of the global market slid to 13.2 percent in the second quarter from 16.6 percent in the year-earlier period. Handsets running Android, meanwhile, jumped to 79.3 percent from 69.1 percent.
            "

If a digital copy of a movie is suppose to be principally for mobility reasons, iTunes only is a dumb choice since mostly folks now a days are running android.

Re: The Demise of iTunes/Apple in the Digital Copy Market:

by my calculations, 57.3% of the digital copy market has explicitly excluded iTunes.

In the remaining market percent, iTunes can only claim to be a option. They have lost any exclusivity.

              Table updated accordingly...

"Movie 43" was just iTunes. Do you know if they did the same route with that title?

I am just trying to figure out if the table needs to be adjusted at all.

Mirror Mirror was released with an iTunes only digital copy. It was re-released with a vudu redemption code, but it's not UltraViolet. I wish it was, it's one of the ones that I want to share with a friend.

Amazon shows it's UV. I suppose they could be wrong?

The listing on Amazon just says BD + Digital Copy, not UltraViolet.

"Movie 43" appears to be a strange one. I redeemed the iTunes code, and the digital copy downloaded to my computer... but it's not available in my "iTunes in the Cloud" like all of the other movies I've redeemed similarly.

Same thing happened to me with the movie "Immortals" on iTunes and I submited a support case and they ended up telling me that the studio does not allow multiple downloads or streaming. That's one of the reasons I try to stay away from iTunes for movies.

I do as well, for the most part. But in the case of "Movie 43" (and also another recent code I redeemed, "21 & Over") there really wasn't any choice. The code was for iTunes digital copy. And it sounds to me like the reason those studios chose this particular option (over, say, UV and/or VUDU) is because they could limit it to single download, no streaming.

So when it's "iTunes or nothing" the choice for the consumer is pretty clear.

That being said, I have 230 movies in my UV/VUDU cloud (nearly all acquired via D2D@Walmart and D2D@Home.)
I have 45 movies in my iTunes cloud (most, if not all, acquired via codes included with disks.)

Some titles have allowed me to get copies in both clouds. And when I am forced to choose between VUDU and iTunes, I choose VUDU.

wal-mart has both movie 43 and 21 and over with vudu codes. They are sd and 14.99 for the movie + code.
they also have safe haven and a few others like this. They are sd only thou.
